If you never downloaded Pokémon Bank, Nintendo currently says it is not available for download. The Nintendo 3DS eShop stopped allowing new purchases and downloads of free content on March 27, 2023. If you downloaded Bank before then, you may be able to redownload it, but Nintendo’s general redownload policy does not guarantee that Bank will appear for every account.
Can you download Pokémon Bank now?
No—not if you never had it. Nintendo’s current Pokémon Bank service notice says the application is “not currently available for download.” That applies even though Bank is compatible with certain 3DS Pokémon games: owning a compatible game or buying a 3DS does not provide a way to obtain the app.

The eShop’s March 27, 2023 closure ended new purchases and downloads of free content. Nintendo’s eShop closure FAQ specifically lists Pokémon Bank among the software and passes no longer available to purchase. Nintendo later clarified that Bank became free to use on that date only for people who had downloaded it before March 27, 2023—not as a new free download for everyone. Can previous owners redownload Pokémon Bank?
Possibly, but do not assume it will be recoverable. Nintendo’s general 3DS redownload instructions say previously owned software can be redownloaded for the foreseeable future. However, Bank’s own current notice says the app is unavailable for download. Those policies do not establish that every former owner will see Bank in their account’s redownload list.

- On the 3DS, open Nintendo eShop and check the Redownloadable Software area for Pokémon Bank.
- If the console was formatted, check that the Nintendo Network ID previously associated with the purchase is linked again, as Nintendo’s redownload guidance may require.
- If Bank does not appear, Nintendo’s general policy is not a guarantee that it can be restored to that account.
When does Pokémon Bank shut down?
Nintendo says Pokémon Bank service will end on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Bank-to-Pokémon HOME transfers are scheduled to stop at the same time. Nintendo’s current date-specific notice is at Pokémon Bank service discontinuation. Nintendo had earlier said Bank and Poké Transporter would continue online services for the foreseeable future; the newer notice supplies the end date. If you have Bank, decide whether to move your Pokémon
If you want Pokémon stored in Bank to remain accessible beyond the service’s end, Nintendo’s documented route is to transfer them to Pokémon HOME before the deadline. A Pokémon HOME Premium plan is required. The transfer is one-way: Pokémon moved to HOME cannot be returned to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS games. Nintendo explains the requirements in its Bank-to-HOME transfer instructions.
When your 3DS is available
- In Pokémon HOME, start the Move flow and obtain a temporary Moving Key.
- Enter that key in Pokémon Bank on the connected 3DS. Nintendo says the key expires after three minutes, so enter it promptly.
When your 3DS is unavailable
Nintendo’s no-3DS route requires the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank to be linked to the Nintendo Account used for Pokémon HOME. Follow the no-3DS option in Nintendo’s transfer instructions; the linked-account requirement is part of that process.

Nintendo Europe’s compatibility list names Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Pokémon Ultra Moon. It also describes Poké Transporter as the historical tool for moving Pokémon from Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 into Bank. This compatibility information does not mean Bank or Poké Transporter can be newly downloaded now.
