The adult does not need an EA account of their own. The minimum age and when a child account can become a teen account depend on the child’s country or region.
Who can create an EA account for a child?
A parent or guardian must create the child account; the child should not set it up independently. EA says the adult does not need to have an EA account to create one for the child or contact EA about a child account issue. You can start in the EA app or, for some games, during the game’s sign-in or online-mode setup. The exact in-game flow varies by game and platform.
How old do you have to be to make an EA account?
EA’s User Agreement says a person must be at least 13, or the minimum age in their country of residence, to create an EA account. That is not a universal age of 13: local requirements can set a higher threshold. EA also says people below the minimum age of digital consent in their country or territory are children.
If someone is between the applicable minimum age and 18—or the age of majority where they live—the person and their parent or guardian must review and agree to EA’s User Agreement together. Enter the child’s real date of birth and the correct country or region; EA uses these details to apply age-appropriate settings.

How to set up a child account
- Open the EA app and select Create account. If account setup appears inside a game instead, follow the prompts there; steps depend on the game and platform.
- Choose the child’s country or region and enter their actual date of birth. These details determine which age rules apply.
- Enter an email address in the Parent or Guardian Email Address field. The adult does not need a separate EA account.
- Check the parent or guardian email for EA’s verification message and follow its instructions to confirm the child account was created.
EA’s instructions are available in its account creation and age requirements guide and child account setup guidance. Follow the current prompts in the app, since screens and steps can change.
Child accounts, teen accounts, and regional age thresholds
Child accounts have more restrictions than teen accounts, including limits on online play, chat, and spending. The age at which a child account can upgrade to a teen account varies by country or region. EA’s published examples are:

These are thresholds from EA’s child-to-teen account age-up table, not a complete list of every country. Check EA’s table for the child’s own location rather than assuming the examples apply everywhere.

A parent or guardian with an adult EA account can add a teen account to an EA Family account to manage playtime and spending. EA says teen accounts have a default spending limit of zero; changing that limit requires adding the teen account to the Family account.
