No—not in vanilla Minecraft Survival. A grindstone or crafting table will not remove Curse of Vanishing, and the enchanted item disappears when you die. You can keep using it and avoid dying, switch to a replacement, or explore edition- and server-specific options if you have the necessary permissions.
What Curse of Vanishing does
Curse of Vanishing causes the enchanted item to disappear when its wearer dies. Microsoft’s Bedrock creator documentation describes the effect as “Item will disappear on death,” and Minecraft Help summarizes it as “Item destroyed upon death.” Microsoft Learn: Introduction to Enchantments; Minecraft Help: All Enchantments in Minecraft.
Can a grindstone or crafting table remove it?
No. Unlike ordinary enchantments, curses cannot be removed with a grindstone; crafting the item with another item will not remove Curse of Vanishing either. The Minecraft Wiki’s general tutorial documents both limitations. Its Java Edition enchantment-tag reference specifically identifies the curse group in Java, so that technical tag detail should not be taken as universal implementation documentation for every edition. What can you do instead?
- Keep using the item: It remains usable; the risk is losing it if you die while carrying it.
- Use a replacement: Replace it with an item that does not have the curse rather than relying on the cursed one.
- Ask about a custom change: Commands, item editing, or server tools may offer options, but what is possible depends on the edition, world settings, server setup, and your permissions. There is no universal command established here for removing an existing curse.
Does the /enchant command remove Curse of Vanishing?
No removal function is documented for it. Microsoft’s Bedrock reference describes /enchant as a command for adding an enchantment and says cheats are required. That page does not establish how to edit or remove an existing curse in Java, with datapacks, or through server plugins. Microsoft Learn: /enchant Command.
