Did Black Myth: Wukong really sell 20 million copies?
The figure was reported, but its attribution matters. On September 18, 2024, TechNode said analytics firm VG Insights estimated that Black Myth: Wukong had sold nearly 20 million copies across platforms. That was a market estimate, not a sales announcement from developer Game Science.

A separate September report by Video Games Chronicle discussed the sales claim alongside the DLC forecast, but did not establish it as a direct Game Science announcement. The 20-million figure should therefore be described as a reported estimate or industry claim, not as an officially confirmed developer total.
How did later reports describe the sales milestone?
December 2024: Hero Games chairman interview
In a December 3, 2024 interview, GamesBeat asked Dino Ying, chairman of Hero Games, about sales. Ying said the game had managed 20 million PC and PlayStation units in about a month. He also recalled that a 10-million milestone had been announced after three days, and said a newer figure should be possible soon. His comments add interview context to the one-month number; they are not the same thing as a direct Game Science sales announcement. January 2025: Niko Partners figures cited
On January 31, 2025, Game World Observer reported that Niko Partners put global sales at more than 25 million since the game’s August 2024 launch. The article also attributed milestone figures of 10 million in three days, 18 million in two weeks, and 20 million in the first month to Niko Partners’ research. These figures belong to that later attribution chain; they should not be retroactively presented as the source of VG Insights’ September estimate. Was DLC actually coming in early 2025?
In a September 16, 2024 report, Video Games Chronicle said Daniel Camilo, a China-based journalist and games-industry consultant, had reported that Game Science wanted an expansion to arrive around Chinese New Year. The 2025 holiday began on January 29. Camilo’s reported sources expected it “right at the end of January, or very soon after,” but he also warned that plans could change. VGC’s report said the DLC had not been officially announced.

TechNode repeated the expected timing on September 18, citing Camilo’s post on X, and likewise said Game Science had not announced DLC details. That made early 2025 a reported target, not a confirmed release date. Camilo’s forecast was not a statement from Game Science, and the cited coverage did not confirm the expansion’s contents. TechNode’s report also summarized community speculation about possible storylines; those ideas were not confirmed features.
