Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo unlock the Red Soldier Ant Buggy, finish the Missed Connection questline, buy the Hatchery blueprint for 500 Raw Science, and hatch a Red Soldier Ant egg. The Orb Weaver Buggy requires later story progress, a Turbo Optical Disk, and 5,000 Raw Science for its blueprint. Both eggs must be incubated in a built Hatchery; the Red Soldier Ant takes 12 in-game hours and the Orb Weaver takes 24.
This guide covers those two mounts, not every Buggy currently available. Grounded 2 remains in Early Access, and Obsidian’s Beat the Heat update added Buggy progression features and the Black Soldier Ant Buggy. Unlock names, recipes, and requirements can change between updates.
How to unlock the Red Soldier Ant Buggy
The Red Soldier Ant is the earlier of these two Buggy routes. GameSpot’s walkthrough places the Hatchery blueprint after the Missed Connection questline and says it costs 500 Raw Science at a Ranger Station Science Shop. The Red Soldier Ant Buggy recipe comes with that blueprint. GameSpot’s Buggy guide
Build the Hatchery
Gather these materials to construct it:
- 6 Weed Stems
- 1 Acorn Top
- 5 Acorn Shells
- 5 Mite Fuzz
Find and carry a Red Soldier Ant egg
Go into an ant hill and continue farther inside, fighting Red Soldier Ants as needed, until you find an egg. The egg occupies your hands and cannot be stored in your inventory, so plan the return trip before picking it up. Xbox Wire recommends bringing armor, strong weapons, and healing items for the expedition. Xbox Wire’s Grounded 2 survival guide

Incubate the egg
Use the Hatchery to incubate the egg for 12 in-game hours. GameSpot lists the mount recipe as 2 Grub Hides, 3 Sprigs, 1 Acorn Shell, and a Red Soldier Ant egg. The resulting Buggy supports hauling, gathering small items, travel, and combat.
How to unlock the Orb Weaver Buggy
The Orb Weaver is a later progression unlock involving a Turbo Optical Disk and a blueprint purchase. Guides vary on the exact story-gate wording: GameSpot describes defeating the mysterious person and obtaining the Turbo Optical Disk marked at the Statue point of interest; Grounded 2 Wiki calls the gate the Networking quest and names the item the Network Center TURBO Optical Disk. Follow the current in-game quest log and item name if they differ from either guide. GameSpot and Grounded 2 Wiki’s Buggies guide

- Advance the story until you can access the Turbo Optical Disk.
- Take the disk to any Ranger Outpost or Ranger Station and use its Science Shop to purchase the Orb Weaver blueprint for 5,000 Raw Science.
- Find an Orb Weaver egg in the spider den beneath Headless BURG.L, near the center of the map.
- Use the Hatchery to incubate the egg for 24 in-game hours.
Orb Weaver saddle materials
GameSpot lists these materials for the Orb Weaver saddle:
- 3 Blueberry Leather
- 4 Red Ant Mandibles
- 3 Acorn Shells
Which Buggy should you unlock first?
Choose based on the job in front of you rather than treating one mount as universally better. Xbox Wire describes the Red Soldier Ant as useful for traversal, carrying heavy items, combat support, and gathering small items in bulk. GameSpot characterizes the Orb Weaver as more combat-oriented, while Grounded 2 Wiki notes that it can cross web bridges. Those route advantages make the Orb Weaver especially useful when your destination or objective involves those bridges; the Red Soldier Ant is the practical route when you need an earlier mount for hauling and general travel.

What changes in later updates?
Obsidian’s Beat the Heat update introduced Buggy progression: players can spend Moldy Milk Molars to improve buggy health, damage, effectiveness, gathering, and support, and use mutations and tier evolution through the Buffin’ Barrel. The update also added the Black Soldier Ant Buggy. A Grounded 2 Wiki guide dated August 11, 2026, lists Red Soldier Ant, Orb Weaver, and Ladybug as rideable Buggies, so the two mounts in this guide are not the game’s complete roster. Grounded 2 Wiki
Obsidian notes that “Grounded 2 is in Early Access, and we’re continuing to build the game alongside the community.” Check the current quest log, Science Shop, and recipe screen if a requirement in an older walkthrough does not match your game.
