No. Rockstar does not support changing the gender of an existing Red Dead Online character through the appearance editor. To play as a character of a different gender, Rockstar’s stated option is to delete the current character and create a new one—a step that removes that character’s progress, spent funds, weapons, mounts, rank, and unlocks.
What you can change without deleting your character
For supported appearance edits, open Player Menu → Online Options → Change Appearance. Rockstar says this service is available for a fee; its support guidance does not specify the amount. The editor does not change gender.

You can also adjust hairstyles, dentistry, facial hair, and makeup at Barbers. Walking style, outfits, and emotes can be set through Online Options and the Camp Wardrobe. These choices change appearance or presentation, not the character’s gender.
What happens if you delete the character
Rockstar’s “Changing character appearance in Red Dead Online” article, last updated April 20, 2024, says that changing gender requires deleting the existing character and creating another. Its separate “Deleting Characters in Red Dead Online” article, last updated May 2, 2024, specifies what deletion costs:

Unspent Gold Bars and Cash remaining in the account will be available to the new character. That exception applies to unspent currency only; it does not preserve progress, items, rank, or unlocks.
Should you keep the character or start over?

If changing gender is essential, deletion and recreation is Rockstar’s stated route. If retaining rank, unlocks, or character-specific items matters more, keep the character and use the supported appearance options instead.

Why older update notes can be confusing
Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 Title Update 1.11 notes mention changing appearance through Online Options and a fix for an issue that had blocked gender changes in the Character Creator. That note concerns character creation and an earlier bug; it does not say that an existing character’s gender can now be changed. Rockstar’s cited support guidance was last updated in 2024, and menu wording may change in later updates.
