Brotato on Steam Deck: Best Settings for Graphics and Performance

Brotato’s default graphics are the evidence-backed Steam Deck baseline. For lower-power play, test 4W TDP and move to 5W if needed—but results may differ by Deck and operating system.

For Brotato on Steam Deck, start with the game’s default graphics settings: Valve’s compatibility listing says they perform well, and the available evidence does not establish a better custom preset. If you want to conserve battery, a single Steam Deck LCD report suggests experimenting with a 4W TDP limit, then trying 5W if the game is not smooth enough. Treat that as a starting point, not a guaranteed setting for every Deck.

Recommended Brotato settings on Steam Deck

Setting Recommendation Why
Graphics Keep the game’s default graphics configuration. Steam’s game-specific compatibility entry says the default graphics perform well on Deck. Steam Deck compatibility
Frame rate Prioritize a smooth experience at a refresh rate supported by your Deck. A community report targets 60+ FPS, but it is one user’s configuration, not an independent frame-time test. DeckSettings report
TDP for lower-power play Try 4W; raise it to 5W if needed. This is an experiment based on one LCD Deck running Bazzite 42, not a validated SteamOS or OLED recommendation. DeckSettings report
Resolution and scaling Leave the defaults unless you encounter a specific display problem. The compatibility criteria use Deck default resolutions, and no evidence here shows that changing Brotato’s resolution or scaling improves its performance. Valve’s Verified criteria Steam Deck compatibility
Refresh rate Use an option supported by your Deck model; do not set it above the model’s cap. Valve says going above the supported cap will not improve performance and may use more battery. Steam Deck technical details

How to test a lower TDP

The 4W and 5W values come from a 2025 community report by TheManInBlack-Gaming. It describes a Steam Deck LCD running Bazzite 42, targets 60+ FPS at the default game resolution, and does not document custom game graphics settings. The author suggests trying 5W; there is no controlled 4W-versus-5W comparison or measured result across SteamOS, OLED, and LCD models.

  1. Start Brotato with its default graphics and resolution.
  2. In SteamOS, open the game’s Quick Access Menu and use the performance controls to enable a manual TDP limit, if available on your system. Set 4W as a test rather than assuming it is optimal.
  3. Play through a representative run and check whether the game remains smooth during busy waves. If performance is not satisfactory, raise the limit to 5W or turn off the manual limit.
  4. Keep the setting only if the experience is smooth enough for you. The cited report does not establish a universal frame rate, battery runtime, or ideal wattage.

The report also lists five hours of average battery life as a single-user result. It is not a controlled battery test or a runtime promise. Its separate battery-power field says “8” without a unit, so it cannot be treated as a meaningful consumption measurement.

Do you need to change resolution or graphics?

Not on the evidence available. Valve’s Verified criteria refer to the Deck’s default 1280×800 or 1280×720 resolution, good default settings, and legible text. The game-specific listing says Brotato performs well with default graphics; neither source establishes a benefit from lowering resolution or changing scaling. Valve’s Verified description—“The game works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box”—defines the Verified category generally, rather than serving as a Brotato-specific developer statement. Steam lists these minimum SteamOS/Linux requirements for Brotato: a 2 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, 128 MB of graphics, OpenGL 3+, and 200 MB of available storage. These are minimum requirements, not a performance benchmark or evidence for a particular TDP, frame rate, or battery life. Steam support page
