Yes, but whether TLauncher can join a particular Minecraft server depends on the server’s account-authentication settings. TLauncher says a server that requires a licensed Minecraft account may reject a session without one; Java and Bedrock edition compatibility matters too. For reliable access to authenticated servers, use the official Minecraft Java Edition launcher with a licensed account.
What determines whether TLauncher can join?
Three things need to line up: the server must be online, it must accept the account and authentication method you are using, and it must support your Minecraft edition and version. Having a server address alone does not guarantee access.

- Authentication: TLauncher says servers requiring a licensed Minecraft/Mojang account may reject a session that does not have one. It says licensed users can sign in through TLauncher’s account menu. These are statements about TLauncher’s own product, not a guarantee that every server accepts it. - Edition: Java players ordinarily need a Java server, and Bedrock players need a Bedrock-compatible server. Java and Bedrock do not directly share ordinary edition servers. Minecraft’s Java or Bedrock guide.
- Version and availability: The server must be running and compatible with the version you launch. Check with the server owner if you are unsure.
How to join a Java multiplayer server
Minecraft Help explains that a Java Edition online server lets two or more players play together without a Realms subscription. To join one:
- Launch Minecraft Java Edition and select Multiplayer.
- Choose a server already shown in the list, select Direct Connection, or select Add Server.
- Enter the server’s address (IP address or URL) when prompted. For an added server, save it and select it from the list to connect.
The official instructions are in Minecraft Help’s Java multiplayer server guide. A connection can still fail if the server is offline, your edition or version does not match, or the server rejects your authentication method. Minecraft also publishes general multiplayer requirements.

Why does TLauncher say “Invalid session”?
TLauncher’s help page says this error when joining someone else’s server can mean the server accepts only licensed accounts. Its stated options are to sign in through TLauncher with a Minecraft/Mojang license or use a server that does not check for a license. That explanation is TLauncher’s, and it does not establish that any particular server is legitimate or safe.
If you own or manage a private server, TLauncher describes changing the server’s online-mode or license-check setting to allow clients without a license check. That setting changes how the server authenticates players; it is not simply a connection fix. The operator remains responsible for access controls, and players should consider the risk of impersonation and account-safety issues. The available guidance does not establish a safe configuration for a particular host, so do not change authentication settings without understanding the consequences.

Can you play with a friend who owns Minecraft?
Possibly, if you are both using Java Edition, the server accepts your authentication method, and you are on compatible versions. A friend owning Minecraft does not by itself make an authenticated server accept an unlicensed session. For the most straightforward supported route to authenticated multiplayer, each player should use a licensed game and a compatible Java Edition version.
First confirm that you and your friend are launching the same edition. Minecraft says Java and Bedrock use different servers and do not play together directly through their ordinary edition servers. Do not assume unofficial plugins or bridges will solve an edition mismatch; the cited guidance does not establish their compatibility or support.
