Yes—in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, you can generally Tribute a monster on the same turn it was Summoned. Players often say “sacrifice,” but the official term is “Tribute.” What matters is whether you are using the monster for a Tribute Summon or for a card effect, and whether you still have your Normal Summon available.
Can you Tribute a monster right after Summoning it?
There is no general wait-a-turn rule that stops you from Tributing a monster just because it entered the field this turn. First check how it got there: a Normal Summon, Special Summon, or Set are different actions, and a face-down Set monster is not considered Summoned.
For a Tribute Summon, the key limit is your Normal Summon/Set allowance—not how long the monster has been on the field. Konami’s Official Rulebook Version 10 says, “You can only Normal Summon or Set a monster (including a Tribute Summon) once per turn.”
If you Normal Summoned it, can you Tribute Summon another monster?
Normally, no. A Tribute Summon is a Normal Summon, so if you have already used your turn’s Normal Summon/Set, you cannot use that same allowance to Tribute Summon a second monster.

For example, if you Normal Summon a Level 4 monster, you cannot then Tribute it to Tribute Summon a Level 5 or higher monster using the ordinary allowance. The first Normal Summon has already used it. An effect that grants an additional Normal Summon can change this, so check any relevant card text.
If you Special Summoned it, can you Tribute Summon with it?
Generally, yes. A Special Summon is distinct from a Normal Summon, so if you have not yet used your Normal Summon/Set for the turn, you can usually Tribute the Special Summoned monster to Tribute Summon a monster. Check the monster’s text and any other restrictions that apply to your game state.
For a Tribute Summon, the rulebook requires at least one Tribute for a Level 5–6 monster and two for a Level 7 or higher monster. Card text or applicable rules may provide a different requirement.
Can a card effect Tribute a monster separately?
Yes. Some effects instruct you to Tribute a monster, and that is separate from performing a Tribute Summon. For instance, Konami’s Tribute Doll card details give this text: “Tribute 1 monster; Special Summon 1 Level 7 monster from your hand that can be Normal Summoned/Set. It cannot attack this turn.” This effect Tributes a monster and Special Summons another; it does not grant an additional Normal Summon.

Follow the exact wording of the effect and any restrictions on the monster being Tributed or the monster being summoned. A face-down Set is not treated as a Summoned monster, so do not assume every effect treats it the same way as a face-up monster.

- How did the monster arrive? Identify whether it was Normal Summoned, Special Summoned, or Set.
- What are you Tributing it for? A Tribute Summon uses your Normal Summon/Set allowance; an effect follows its own text.
- Have you already Normal Summoned or Set this turn? If so, you normally cannot Tribute Summon again unless an effect grants another Normal Summon.
- Do any card effects restrict the play? Check the relevant monsters and other active effects before proceeding.
This explanation follows the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG rulebook framework. Rush Duel, special modes in digital games, and individual card rulings may use different rules or restrictions; check the rules and card text for that format.
