Official information does confirm that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a TT Games and Warner Bros. Games action-adventure with an open-world Gotham, a new combat system, and two-player local co-op. The tradition claim should be treated as unverified, not as a confirmed feature or change.
What is confirmed about the game?
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an officially released action-adventure developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Games. Its story follows Bruce Wayne’s journey from origin to Gotham hero, combining moments inspired by Batman films, television, comics, and games with LEGO humor, according to the Warner Bros. Games FAQ and the publisher’s launch announcement.
The official materials describe Gotham as an open world with puzzles, challenges, crimes, rewards, and locations such as Ace Chemicals, Gotham Botanical Gardens, Wayne Tower, and Arkham Asylum. Combat combines attack chains, takedowns, gadgets, combos, stealth techniques, and character abilities, as described by DC’s game listing.
Which characters and play options does it offer?
The WB Games FAQ lists Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul as playable characters. Each has distinct skills, progression, combos, and gadgets. Joker and Harley Quinn are listed as playable in the Mayhem Collection DLC.

The game supports solo play or couch co-op for up to two players. The FAQ explicitly says online co-op is unavailable, so players looking for a way to join friends remotely should not assume the game supports it.
What does the “30-year LEGO tradition” claim mean?
The claim is not substantiated by the official game materials, and the accessible search result reproducing the headline does not explain the alleged leak or identify the tradition. Without the original report or primary leak evidence, it is not possible to say what practice is supposedly ending—or to verify that the game breaks it. Treat the leak framing as unconfirmed rather than as news established by Warner Bros. Games or TT Games.

Do the LEGO sets unlock required game content?
Warner Bros. Games describes four physical LEGO DC Batman sets as being associated with in-game content. Some content can be earned in the game, while gold variants are exclusive to purchasers of the relevant sets. The sets are optional tie-ins, not a requirement to play the game.
