EA announced a 128-player version of Battlefield 2042’s weekly Flashback Conquest playlist for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The available evidence does not establish how many players objected or what specific complaints they made: EA’s forum item was titled “Feedback Thread: 128 Player Flashback CQ,” but its replies could not be verified. A later comment from a Battlefield design director offers context about the broader 128-player format, not a verdict on that particular playlist week.
What did EA announce?
EA’s indexed forum announcement said the player count for Flashback Conquest would rise to 128 for the week on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The associated thread was titled “Feedback Thread: 128 Player Flashback CQ.” EA Forums

This was a specific weekly playlist change on the listed platforms, not evidence that every Battlefield 2042 platform received the 128-player version. The available announcement does not establish the playlist’s current rotation or availability.
What is known about the criticism?
The thread’s title shows that EA invited feedback on the 128-player version. It does not, by itself, show that many players criticized it. The forum page returned an access error when opened, so the replies, complaints, and their representativeness could not be verified. No measured count of critics is established.

That means “criticised by many” is a framing of the topic, not a confirmed statistic. There is no substantiated basis here to say whether objections focused on match flow, performance, map scale, or another issue.
How does the later response to 128-player matches fit?
In a 2025 report on an interview with Edge, GamesRadar+ quoted Battlefield design director Shashank Uchil describing the broader Battlefield 2042 experiment: “We thought larger player numbers would work – it just didn’t catch on.” He also said, “Look, we try stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s as simple as that.” GamesRadar+, 14 September 2025

Uchil’s remarks are retrospective context about the larger player-count design choice across Battlefield 2042. They are not a direct assessment of the Flashback Conquest week or a survey of reactions to its feedback thread.

The same GamesRadar+ report says Battlefield 6 returned to a maximum of 64 players per match. That is a series-level comparison of match scale, not proof that 64 players is objectively better, nor confirmation of Battlefield 2042’s current playlist schedule.

The two figures describe player-count settings. They do not provide controlled comparisons of gameplay or performance, or a measured split in player preference.
