If Battlefield 2042 keeps returning to first-time setup and making you replay the tutorial, player reports describe a settings or profile reset—not necessarily erased account progression. An EA community manager suggested checking whether security software blocks the game from saving settings and whether OneDrive or another cloud backup is replacing the PROFSAVE_profile file. EA staff responded with troubleshooting suggestions, but the reviewed update notes do not confirm a fix for this exact issue.
What resets when Battlefield 2042 replays the tutorial?
Players have reported that the game starts as though it is a first launch, bringing back setup choices and resetting settings or controls before launching the Conquest/All-Out Warfare tutorial. In at least two reports, some progression remained: one player said level and weapon-attachment progress were intact, and another said levels and loadouts were unaffected. The reports therefore do not establish that the account’s full progression has been erased.
One report linked the reset to accepting a party invite while anti-cheat was loading, but that is an individual account, not proof that party invites or anti-cheat cause the problem generally.
Has EA acknowledged or fixed this bug?
An EA community manager, EA_Kent, replied to a player report with two possible causes to investigate: security software blocking writes to the game’s settings files, and OneDrive or another cloud backup replacing PROFSAVE_profile. That is an EA response with troubleshooting suggestions, not confirmation that either cause applies to every affected player.

The reviewed Update 3.1.0 notes mention a separate issue in which player-card unlock progress could appear reset. That note concerns a progress display issue; it does not document a fix for the settings-reset and forced-tutorial reports. The available evidence does not establish the current cross-platform status of this symptom.
What to check if settings keep resetting
- Check security software permissions. EA_Kent suggested verifying that security software is not blocking Battlefield 2042 from writing its settings files. If your security software offers per-app permissions or exceptions, check the game there. Avoid disabling antivirus or applying broad security changes.
- Check cloud backup behavior. Look for whether OneDrive or another backup service is syncing or restoring the game’s
PROFSAVE_profilefile. A cloud copy replacing the current file is one possible explanation EA staff raised, not a confirmed diagnosis. - Record what is affected. Note whether only setup choices, settings, and controls reset, or whether account progression is also missing. This distinction helps describe the issue accurately and may help support narrow it down.
- Contact EA support if it continues. Use the Battlefield 2042 support page for troubleshooting and contact options. Include your platform, launcher, when the reset occurs, and whether settings alone or progression too appear affected. The page does not establish a verified fix for this particular symptom.
Are community workarounds confirmed?
Players have mentioned backing up the settings folder or quitting the tutorial, and one report suggested changing a Windows Security folder-permission setting. These are anecdotal reports; the available evidence does not establish them as EA-verified or generally effective fixes. Avoid changing folder permissions unless you understand the security implications.
