Bellwright’s Summer Update arrived on June 9, 2026, bringing performance work, a reworked opening, full controller support, and new settlement and squad tools. It launched alongside the game’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release. What changed in Bellwright’s Summer Update?
Bellwright is a settlement-building survival RPG set in the fictional kingdom of Karvenia. Players explore, gather, hunt, build and craft, recruit followers, liberate settlements, and command armies. Donkey Crew framed the June 9 update around improving performance and making the game more pleasant to play.

Performance and presentation
The update included an optimization pass, an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.7, and updated versions of DLSS, FSR, and XeSS. It also targeted late-game micro-freezes that can arise in large settlements. The announcement called performance “the biggest part of that ‘more pleasant to play’ promise.” These are developer-described changes, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or performance level on every PC or console.
A reworked opening and more control
The early main quest and introduction to the world were reworked. The update also added full controller support, making controller play an official option across the game’s supported builds.

Settlement planning and army commands
- Planning mode: Lay out settlements and buildings before committing resources.
- Travel signs: Connect player-built roads to the world’s roads.
- Warehouse access points: Add access points for warehouses.
- Gear presets: Assign food and medicine slots.
- Squad and map commands: Improve squad movement and map-command functionality.
- Building changes: Add building variation and adjust height placement.

Why was the update also a console milestone?
The Summer Update coincided with Bellwright’s release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Donkey Crew described the console versions as nearly identical to the PC version at launch. That launch description does not establish that every later patch arrives on every platform at the same time: the official news listing includes platform-specific hotfix announcements.
The developer’s June 9 notes said crossplay and self-hosted dedicated servers were in development and expected later in 2026, likely before the next major update. That was a dated plan, not confirmation that either feature has since shipped. Check a newer official announcement or the relevant platform’s current store and patch information before buying on the assumption that crossplay or self-hosting is available.

No. The June Summer Update was a major milestone, but the official Bellwright news listing includes a later hotfix dated October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Windows Store. Check the news and patch notes for your platform for the latest applicable changes; do not assume one platform’s hotfix applies to every build.
What the publisher reported at launch
In a June 10, 2026 announcement, publisher Snail, Inc. reported more than 1 million lifetime units sold and over 46.4 million playtime hours since Bellwright’s Steam Early Access launch. It also reported a “Very Positive” Steam rating based on more than 18,000 global user reviews. These are publisher-reported figures from that date, not live sales, playtime, or review totals.
