No. Battlefield 6 launched without ray tracing, and players cannot enable it with a graphics-card setting or a hidden in-game toggle. Technical director Christian Buhl said the studio chose to prioritize performance and optimization for the game’s default settings and users. That statement explains the launch decision; it does not establish how much performance the game gained.
Why Battlefield 6 launched without ray tracing
In an August 31, 2025 interview with ComicBook.com, Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl said the game would not have ray tracing at launch and that the studio had no plans for it in the near future. He said the team wanted to focus its effort on making the game as optimized as possible for default settings and users, and that the decision was made relatively early in development.
This was a development choice, not a feature omitted from the settings menu by mistake. A graphics card’s ability to perform hardware ray tracing does not add the feature to a game that does not implement it. Buhl’s explanation is the studio’s stated rationale, not an independent benchmark of the performance difference.
Could Battlefield 6 add ray tracing later?
Buhl’s “no plans in the near future” comment was made in August 2025, so it should not be treated as a new promise about the game’s plans in 2026. EA’s official Battlefield 6 updates index, checked through its September 28, 2026 update entry, contains no announcement that ray tracing has been added. That is the status reflected in the reviewed official material; it does not rule out a future announcement.

Upscaling is not ray tracing
EA lists Nvidia DLSS 4, Intel XeSS 2, and AMD FSR 4 among Battlefield 6’s PC graphics features. These are upscaling technologies, not ray tracing. Their presence does not mean the game includes ray-traced lighting, reflections, or shadows.
EA also says the PC version has over 600 customization options. Those choices let players tune graphics and performance, but do not provide a way to switch on a feature the game does not support.

What this means for PC and console players
EA lists Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Its FAQ describes console quality and performance choices for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and a maximum resolution of 1080p with a 60 FPS target for Xbox Series S. These are platform settings and targets, not ray-tracing modes.
For PC buyers, EA’s October 2025 launch specifications give useful hardware guidance, but EA says the listed builds are not comprehensive and cover minimal viable hardware across seven in-game presets. The figures are EA-published targets, not independent test results, and actual performance can vary with the system and settings. EA recommends current drivers and tuning with manufacturer optimization software or in-game settings.
