Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a consistency-first Necrobinder build in Slay the Spire 2, prioritize Soul generation and use Haunt to turn each Soul into damage. Favor Soul-generating cards that also defend, then add enough payoff and draw support to keep the cycle moving. It is a strong default, not a guaranteed winning deck: take cards that address the next fight, and pivot if your rewards point toward Doom or Osty Summon instead.
Why Soul Cycle is the best default
The Soul Cycle plan is recommended as the most dependable route in the current guide because its engine can start with Common and Uncommon cards. Defensive Soul generators help the deck work before you find its damage payoff; Haunt makes a random enemy lose HP whenever you play a Soul. Souls also provide card flow: the official reveal describes Soul as a zero-cost card that draws two cards and exhausts.
A practical core is therefore Soul generation that contributes to survival, Haunt as a payoff, and a focused deck that can draw those pieces. The main risk is dilution: adding too many cards can make it harder to find the Souls and payoff you need. Damage can also feel thin before Haunt appears. The recommendation reflects qualitative guide assessments, not a measured win rate or controlled comparison.
How the Necrobinder’s main build paths compare
| Build | How it works | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soul Cycle | Generate Souls, cycle through them, and use Haunt or other draw payoffs to make each play count. | Guide authors describe it as the most dependable route; defensive Soul makers help before the payoff arrives. | Damage may lag until Haunt, and an oversized deck can dilute the engine. [C004] |
| Doom Execute | Apply Doom until it meets or exceeds an enemy’s current HP. | Can kill without winning a conventional damage-through-Block race. | The target still gets its turn before Doom resolves; it can stall without a scaling piece. [C001][C004] |
| Osty Summon | Build Osty’s HP and use his attacks and body to combine offense with protection. | Summon can strengthen or revive the companion, supporting both his offense and defensive role. | Depends more on finding support and managing whether Osty is alive. [C001][C004][C005] |
| Ethereal | Add Ethereal to cards and use payoffs that reward Ethereal plays. | Can produce explosive turns once assembled. | More setup-dependent: the reviewed guide says it relies on several specific higher-rarity cards. [C001][C004] |
How Doom works—and when to choose it
Doom is a delayed execution threshold, not damage over time. Mega Crit’s official reveal says that when a creature’s Doom meets or exceeds its current HP, it dies at the end of its turn; Doom neither ticks down nor deals damage over time. That threshold can finish an enemy despite ordinary Block, but the enemy gets its turn before the check. Choose Doom when your rewards offer efficient application or scaling and you can manage that delay.

Why Osty Summon can defend as well as attack
Osty attacks independently and, while he has HP, takes attack damage that would otherwise hit the Necrobinder, according to Mega Crit. Summon cards can increase his HP or revive him after death, so they can restore the companion’s defensive buffer as well as support his offense. This makes a summon-focused deck a meaningful alternative when its supporting cards arrive; it is not simply a damage package.
In an August 2026 Q&A, Casey jokingly answered a question about a five-damage enemy attack by saying, “Osty wants to be a good boy and Defend so we should let him.” That answer describes the particular interaction; it is not a general rule against Bodyguard or Summon.

How to draft the build during a run
- Cover the next fight first. Take rewards that address your immediate survival or damage needs rather than forcing an archetype before the cards support it.
- Follow the rewards. If Soul makers appear, build toward the draw-and-Haunt package. If you find efficient Doom application or strong Summon synergies instead, take those signals seriously.
- Keep the engine drawable. Add cards for a clear job and avoid bloating the deck so much that its key Souls and payoffs become hard to find.
This is a practical synthesis of the guide descriptions, not a developer-prescribed deck list or guaranteed recipe.

Slay the Spire 2 is in Early Access, and Mega Crit says content and balance will continue to change. The build guide updated October 5, 2026 labels examples from main-branch v0.107.1 and beta v0.111.0, with differences to Haunt, Soul Storm, and Reave. The available information does not establish which branch is live for every player, so those dated values should not be treated as universal current stats. Check your game’s branch and card text when making a run-specific decision.
