If you want one place to start, choose Persona 4 Golden: it combines a murder mystery, school life, friendships, dungeon exploration and turn-based combat. For a fantasy adventure with action battles, try Tales of Hearts R. There is no well-supported definitive “all-time” ranking here, and “anime games” can mean either games with anime-inspired presentation or games based on anime franchises. The picks below are organized by the experience you want, not by an unsupported score or popularity claim.

What are the best anime games on PS Vita?

These two games have the clearest title-specific support for a recommendation, but they suit different tastes. Persona 4 Golden is the stronger starting point for a long-form RPG that alternates between everyday life and investigation. Tales of Hearts R fits players looking for a more conventional fantasy journey and action-oriented combat.

Which PS Vita anime game should I play first?

Choose Persona 4 Golden for a mix of daily life and dungeon RPG play

Persona 4 Golden first released for PS Vita in 2012, according to PlayStation’s Japanese game page. Its appeal is the contrast between solving a murder mystery and spending time with friends or taking part in school life, then entering dungeons and fighting through turn-based command battles.

ATLUS described the Vita release as an enhanced and expanded version of the handheld RPG. In its May 2012 announcement, the publisher listed remastered visuals and sounds, new Personas, story events, a new character, additional voiced dialogue, online dungeon rescue and anime cutscenes. ATLUS also claimed the edition had “1.5 times the voiced dialogue of the original release”; that figure is the publisher’s historical claim, not an independently verified measurement.

Choose Tales of Hearts R for a fantasy story with aerial action

In Tales of Hearts R, Kor sets out to restore Kohaku’s Spiria. The game’s Aerial Chase Linear Motion Battle System includes aerial battles, making it the more direct fit if you want action-oriented encounters rather than turn-based commands. PlayStation Blog announced a North American PS Vita release for winter 2014; that historical announcement does not establish current availability in any particular region.

What does “anime game” mean on PS Vita?

The label covers two different kinds of game. One is an anime-styled Japanese game that may have an original setting or story, such as Persona 4 Golden or Tales of Hearts R. The other is a game based on an existing anime franchise. Decide whether you want an original RPG or a familiar franchise before choosing: that preference may matter more than the visual style.

PlayStation catalog materials list Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Sword Art Online: Lost Song and Steins;Gate among PS Vita titles. Those listings confirm catalog presence, not comparative quality or enough detail to judge which is the best fit. Treat them as additional names to investigate rather than as ranked recommendations. See the PlayStation Blog catalog entry and another PlayStation Blog catalog entry.

How to choose the right game for you

  • For turn-based combat and social or daily-life sections: start with Persona 4 Golden.
  • For an original fantasy premise and action battles: consider Tales of Hearts R.
  • For a particular anime franchise: look into the Sword Art Online titles or Steins;Gate, but verify details about the specific Vita release before buying.
  • For a definitive “best of all time” ranking: there is not enough comparable evidence here to order these games by review score, sales or popularity. Choose by genre, story and combat preferences instead.

What to check when buying a PS Vita game

Physical copies use PS Vita game cards; PlayStation’s PlayStation TV manual identifies the PS Vita card format. For any listing, check that it is the PS Vita version and confirm the region, language and what is included. The catalog and manual do not establish current stock, price or the completeness of a particular seller’s copy.
