First, know how Portal lets you play
PlayStation Portal is a streaming device, not a standalone console with games installed on it. Its two play modes have different requirements, so a game listed in a catalog or owned digitally is not automatically eligible for cloud streaming.
Remote Play: stream from your PS5
Remote Play connects Portal to a paired PS5 and streams compatible PS5 and PS4 games installed on that console. Your PS5 must be online and either powered on or in Rest Mode. Remote Play itself does not require PlayStation Plus, although an individual game’s online multiplayer may have a separate subscription requirement. Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum Wi-Fi broadband speed and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience; actual quality depends on your network environment. Cloud streaming: play selected PS5 games without your console connection
Cloud streaming provides access to selected PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, as well as select digital PS5 games in your library. It requires an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership and is limited to adult accounts in supported regions. Sony’s support guidance lists 5 Mbps to establish a session, 7 Mbps for 720p, and 13 Mbps for 1080p; performance varies with the game and network. Cloud streaming on Portal does not support PS4 or PS3 games. Availability differs by country or region and can change over time. Portal game picks by play style
The games below are examples Sony has highlighted for Portal use. They are not guaranteed to be available to stream in every region or at every moment. For cloud play, confirm eligibility in Portal’s game search or Sony’s current cloud-streaming list. For Remote Play, confirm the game is compatible and installed on your PS5.
Big action and story adventures
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: A story-driven action pick Sony includes among its Portal examples. Use Remote Play with a compatible PS5 installation, or verify whether it is currently eligible for cloud streaming in your region.
- Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut: An action-adventure option for players looking for a large, cinematic setting. Sony lists it as an example; check the specific access route you intend to use.
- God of War Ragnarök: Another of Sony’s highlighted action-adventure games. It can be played through Remote Play if compatible and installed; check current cloud eligibility separately.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: Sony’s Portal product page names this as a streaming example. Verify current regional cloud availability before relying on that route.
Open-world role-playing and exploration
- Cyberpunk 2077: Sony names it among its Portal streaming examples, making it a candidate for players seeking an open-world role-playing game. Cloud eligibility is not a permanent guarantee; check Portal’s current listing.
- Hogwarts Legacy: Also listed by Sony as a Portal streaming example. As with other titles, distinguish a game you can stream from your PS5 through Remote Play from one currently available through cloud streaming.
Strategy role-playing
- Persona 5 Tactica: Sony’s examples include this strategy role-playing game. It may suit players who prefer tactical encounters to a large action-adventure format; verify whether you will access it through your PS5 or an eligible cloud listing.
Fighting and sports
- WWE 2K25: Sony lists it among its Portal game examples for players interested in wrestling and sports-style action.
- Street Fighter 6: Sony includes it in a guide to Portal play sessions. Fighting games can be sensitive to connection quality, but the cited sources do not provide comparative Portal latency or performance measurements; use your own network conditions as a factor when choosing a play mode.
Shorter, lighter, and puzzle-oriented sessions
Sony groups these as examples for “Bitesize sessions for busy lifestyles” in its Portal gaming guide:

The same guide also names Hollow Knight: Silksong, God of War Sons of Sparta, Hi-Fi Rush, Octopath Traveler II, Rocket League, The Sims 4, and Sonic Superstars. Treat these as examples to check, not a promise that each is currently cloud-streamable in your location.

Check compatibility, region, and connection before choosing
- Decide on your play mode. Choose Remote Play if the game is compatible and installed on your paired PS5. Choose cloud streaming only if the title is currently listed as eligible and you meet its requirements.
- Search Portal’s current game listing. Sony’s cloud catalog and regional availability can change. A digital purchase or catalog membership alone does not establish that a game is streamable on Portal.
- Check your account and subscription for cloud play. Cloud streaming requires PlayStation Plus Premium and a supported adult account. Remote Play itself does not require Premium.
- Check your network and console setup. For Remote Play, keep the PS5 online and on or in Rest Mode; Sony recommends at least 15 Mbps, compared with its 5 Mbps minimum. For cloud streaming, Sony specifies 5 Mbps to establish a session, 7 Mbps for 720p, and 13 Mbps for 1080p.
- Keep Portal software current. Sony’s support page listed version 7.0.2 when checked for this article; software details can change. Consult the Portal system software update page for current release information.
What Portal’s specifications do—and do not—tell you
Sony describes Portal as having an 8-inch LCD display with 1080p resolution and support for up to 60 fps at 1080p. Those are device specifications, not a guarantee that every game will stream at that frame rate or resolution: Sony says cloud-streaming performance varies by game and network. The cited sources do not compare the listed games’ Portal latency, frame rate, or image quality, so there is no evidence-based performance winner among them.
