If your mouse feels floaty, your aim moves too quickly, or movement seems to skip in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (MWIII), first identify which problem you have. Adjusting in-game sensitivity can help with aim feel, but it does not change mouse DPI and is not a confirmed fix for intermittent skipped input, frame stutter, or network lag.
First identify what “mouse input issue” means
Players use phrases such as “mouse input lag,” “mouse acceleration,” “skipping some mouse inputs,” and “floaty feeling” for different symptoms. Those descriptions do not establish that every player is experiencing the same defect, so choose the troubleshooting path that matches what you see.
- Aim feels too fast, slow, or inconsistent: Start with Mouse Sensitivity and ADS Sensitivity Multiplier in the game’s Keyboard and Mouse settings.
- Movement intermittently fails to register: Check whether the symptom happens outside MWIII, too. The official sources cited here do not establish a universal mouse-input fix.
- The whole game stutters or feels delayed: Treat this as a possible performance problem rather than assuming sensitivity is responsible.
- Other players or the game world respond late: Look into connectivity separately; network latency and mouse sensitivity are different issues.
Adjust sensitivity for aim that feels wrong
Activision’s PC controls guide explains that Mouse Sensitivity controls how much horizontal and vertical aim changes with mouse movement. The right value depends on how you play: lower sensitivity can help with fine adjustments, while higher sensitivity allows faster turns.
Open the Keyboard and Mouse settings
- From the Launcher menu, open Settings, then choose Keyboard and Mouse. The guide also says you can reach Settings with F1.
- Note your current Mouse Sensitivity and ADS Sensitivity Multiplier before changing either one. Settings are also available during a match.
- Change only one setting at a time, then compare how aiming feels in the same kind of practice situation. This makes it easier to tell whether that change helped; it is a troubleshooting method, not an Activision-verified fix.
Mouse DPI is set by the mouse hardware or its software, not by MWIII’s sensitivity slider. Activision states: “The Settings menu does not affect the DPI of your mouse, but the in-game settings will change the game’s sensitivity.” If you change both DPI and in-game sensitivity at once, it may be harder to tell which change affected your aim.

Check the ADS Sensitivity Multiplier
The ADS Sensitivity Multiplier changes crosshair speed while aiming down sights relative to your non-ADS speed. Activision’s guide says players will “almost always want to keep your ADS Sensitivity Multiplier at 1.00 or lower.” Treat that as general guidance for a starting point, not a mandatory value or a guarantee that skipped input will stop.
Check whether the problem is specific to MWIII
If movement appears to drop out rather than simply feel too fast or slow, try the mouse in another application or game. If the issue is limited to MWIII, that narrows where to investigate; if it also occurs elsewhere, the game’s sensitivity settings alone are unlikely to explain it. The official MWIII guidance reviewed here does not direct players to buy replacement hardware as a remedy.

Community posts may suggest configuration-file edits, polling-rate changes, overlays, driver adjustments, or new accessories. Those suggestions are anecdotal, not confirmed fixes in the official material cited here. Avoid disruptive changes until you have isolated the symptom and tried the reversible in-game settings.
For stutter, instability, or connection trouble
Activision separates general game performance and lag troubleshooting from connection support. If the symptom is broader than mouse aim—for example, the game stutters, becomes unstable, or other players appear to lag—use the relevant performance or connection resources linked from the MWIII support hub rather than assuming a mouse setting is the cause. Support pages and issue notices can change, so check their current content.

Has Activision confirmed a universal mouse-input fix?
The reviewed Activision known-issues page, marked updated August 7, 2026, did not list a PC mouse-input issue. The Season 1 notes dated January 30, 2024, from Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch document various fixes but do not document a mouse-input fix in those notes. These are bounded findings: they do not establish that no separate, later notice or fix exists. Check current official MWIII notices for the latest information.
