CONSCRIPT is a survival-horror game set during the 1916 Battle of Verdun, where a French soldier searches for his missing-in-action brother. Its official descriptions center on trench exploration, scarce supplies, environmental puzzles, route planning, and combat. This overview covers the game’s premise, editions, content rating, and what the available review signal can—and cannot—tell you.
What is CONSCRIPT about?
You play a French soldier trying to find his missing brother amid the Battle of Verdun. The official descriptions place the search in trenches, forts, and no-man’s-land, framing the war setting as survival horror rather than a conventional action campaign. Steam’s description and PlayStation’s listing establish the premise, but they are product descriptions, not evidence of historical accuracy.

How does it play?
The official descriptions emphasize scavenging limited supplies, choosing routes, solving environmental puzzles, and fighting to survive. Steam describes a 3/4 top-down perspective; the ESRB also identifies firearms and melee weapons in its content summary. Those details indicate a methodical survival-horror framework, but they do not establish how combat feels in practice, how demanding the puzzles are, or whether one platform performs better than another.
PlayStation’s listing says the game includes various difficulty settings, multiple endings, unlockable costumes, and bonus weapons. The available material does not detail the differences among difficulty settings or provide a platform-by-platform comparison, so check the listing for the version you intend to play.

What do the available reviews say?
Steam showed 90% positive from 1,995 total user reviews when captured in 2026. That is a changing Steam user-review snapshot, not a critic score or a permanent rating; its percentage and review count can change. It also should not be treated as a substitute for hands-on coverage of a particular console or PC version.
Which versions and platforms are listed?
Store titles differ: Steam names its PC listing CONSCRIPT: Director’s Cut, while PlayStation lists CONSCRIPT for PS4 and PS5. The developer’s press kit lists Steam, GOG, Epic, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam Deck. That broad platform list does not establish performance or feature parity across versions.

The ESRB rates CONSCRIPT Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Strong Language, and Violence. Its summary describes firearm and melee combat in French trenches, bloody effects, and encounters with dying or traumatized soldiers. Readers sensitive to graphic depictions of war should take those descriptors into account. See the ESRB rating summary for the rating authority’s full content information.

Is CONSCRIPT worth considering?
The official material makes CONSCRIPT most relevant to players seeking a war-set survival-horror premise built around exploration, limited supplies, puzzles, and combat. Whether its pacing, combat, readability, and puzzle load work for you cannot be established from store descriptions or the Steam review snapshot alone. For an informed platform-specific decision, compare coverage that identifies the version played and addresses those aspects directly.
