There is no single best PlayStation Vita sports game for everyone. For baseball, start with MLB 14: The Show or MLB 13: The Show; for golf, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational is a standout; for tennis, try Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition. If arcade skateboarding counts as sports for you, OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood is another strong pick. The right choice depends on the sport you want and whether you prefer simulation, management, or arcade action.
How this list is ranked
This is a cross-genre shortlist, not a claim that every game can be judged on one scale. The order below is my editorial judgment, informed by Whatoplay’s catalog ranking, a professional review of MLB 13: The Show, PlayStation’s historical descriptions, and a small community poll. Whatoplay lists 29 Vita sports games and places OlliOlli 2, MLB 14, MLB 13, and Hot Shots Golf in its top four; that is one catalog’s ranking, not a broad consensus. See Whatoplay’s Vita sports ranking.

The best PlayStation Vita sports games
-
MLB 14: The Show — best starting point for baseball
MLB 14: The Show is a leading Vita baseball option and ranks second in Whatoplay’s list. It is the straightforward pick if you want a baseball game in the series, though the ranking alone does not establish that it is better than MLB 13.

-
MLB 13: The Show — best for a deep portable baseball package
GameSpot’s review describes franchise and season play, Road to the Show, and local ad hoc multiplayer. The same review notes the handheld version’s compromises: fewer animations, long loading, visual slowdown, and controls that can feel awkward at Vita scale. Reviewer Brett Todd wrote on March 11, 2013, “MLB 13 plays a very good, very addictive game of baseball.” Read GameSpot’s review.
PlayStation’s 2013 release roundup lists a Vita GameCard edition, confirming a physical format existed; it does not establish current stock or price. See PlayStation’s release roundup.
Rank #2
EA Sports FIFA Soccer - PlayStation Vita- Rear Touch Pad Shooting - Enjoy complete control over shooting-the most rewarding part of soccer-by removing the element of "hit and hope." Pick a spot precisely from the rear touch pad and then finesse a shot with pin-point accuracy.
- Touchscreen Passing - A more intelligent and creative way to play and distribute the ball. Make decisive passes with precision and ease utilizing the touchscreen.
- Touchscreen Free Kick Control - Enjoy creative new ways to take free kicks and score utilizing optional touchscreen controls on set pieces. Swipe your finger to aim and curl a shot around the wall for the match-winning goal that lifts your club to victory.
- Award-winning FIFA gameplay - Experience the same authentic, responsive and intelligent gameplay as the HD console game, including HD graphics with stunning player models, graphics and animations in High Definition.
- Unmatched Authenticity - Compete with over 500 officially licensed clubs in 11 v 11 matches in authentic stadiums from around the world.
-
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational — best for arcade golf
This is the golf pick if you want a more approachable, characterful alternative to a baseball or football simulation. It ranks fourth in Whatoplay’s catalog. In a GameFAQs community poll asking “What’s your favorite sports game on the Vita?”, it received 18 of 44 votes, more than any other listed game. That is a small fan poll, not representative evidence of overall popularity or quality. View the GameFAQs poll.

OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood — best arcade sports pick
Whatoplay ranks OlliOlli 2 first in its Vita sports catalog. It is arcade skateboarding built around tricks and runs, not a conventional team-sport or season simulation, so it is the best fit here for players who want quick action rather than managing a baseball lineup or playing a match.

FIFA 14 Legacy Edition - PlayStation Vita- Pure Shot - Shooting has been transformed. Players have the intelligence to adjust their stride and approach angle to find the best position for hitting the back of the net. Well-hit balls feel satisfying and goals are rewarding. As well as quality strikes, players can now shoot while off balance or rushed.
- Real Ball Physics - Strike the ball with more force and finesse. Realistic ball physics now determines the trajectories of balls in game, enabling players to strike the ball with force from distance, drill low rising shots with accuracy, and blast dipping or swerving shots, just like real soccer players.
- Protect The Ball - Dominate midfield and dictate the tempo of a match. Fend-off and block defenders from the ball while dribbling at any speed. Protect the ball from opponents to control play through midfield and dictate the pace of the match. Plus, out-muscle opponents for position before receiving the ball, then turn defenders to carve out opportunities.
- Teammate Intelligence - Better decision-making delivers tighter, smarter marking and improved run tracking. Defenders recognize opportunities to provide support and win back possession. Attacking players have new ways to outsmart their opponents and break down tighter, more intelligent defenses by creating space for themselves, running along the backline and checking their pace.
- Sprint Dribble Turns - Utilize quick, explosive cuts and turns to beat defenders one-on-one while sprinting with the ball. Players can move in any direction, preserving their natural momentum and maintaining possession of the ball.
-
Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition — best for tennis
Ranked seventh in Whatoplay’s list, this is the named tennis option in the shortlist. Choose it when you want court-based competition rather than a team sport; the available evidence does not establish a detailed comparison with other tennis games.
-
FIFA Soccer 13 and FIFA 15 — soccer options
FIFA 15 appears at number 12 in Whatoplay’s list. Separately, PlayStation described FIFA Soccer 13 for Vita as “the first true HD console soccer experience in the palm of your hands.” That was publisher promotion, not an independent review verdict. PlayStation’s September 25, 2012 Store Update listed a US launch-era price of $39.99 and a 2.8 GB download; neither figure should be read as current pricing or download size. Read PlayStation’s 2012 Store Update.

Madden NFL 13 — best named American football option
Madden NFL 13 ranks ninth in Whatoplay’s catalog. It is the clearest listed choice for American football, though the ranking does not provide a detailed assessment of the Vita edition’s modes or controls.
-
Other picks by sport and play style
- Hustle Kings (#5) for pool.
- MLB 12: The Show (#6) for another baseball option.
- Real Boxing (#8) for boxing.
- Football Manager Classic 2014 (#10) for football management rather than on-pitch play.
