No. A Chrono Trigger remake has not been confirmed. Yuji Horii said in a May 2025 interview that he was beginning to contemplate one after receiving many fan requests, but he did not say that a project had been approved or started. The claim that he announced a remake at Napoli Comicon came from an interpreter, not Horii himself.
How the Napoli Comicon rumor started
In early May 2025, reports circulated that Horii had revealed a Chrono Trigger remake during a panel at Napoli Comicon. Follow-up reporting that examined the footage found that Horii himself did not mention Chrono Trigger or a remake; the interpreter supplied the wording that sparked the story. The panel was therefore not a direct confirmation by Horii. GamesRadar+ reported on the interpreter correction.

What Horii said about a remake
In an on-site interview published May 8, 2025, Gamereactor asked Horii about Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary. Horii referred to the recent Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes, then said: “I get a lot of requests for the remake of Chrono Trigger as well, and so I am starting to contemplate on it”. That is a statement that Horii is considering the idea in response to requests. It is not evidence that Square Enix has approved, staffed, or begun development on a remake. His mention of Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes also does not establish that Chrono Trigger would use that visual style.

What Square Enix has said officially
In its July 4, 2025 shareholder Q&A, Square Enix declined to comment on whether it was considering a Chrono Trigger remake or remaster, saying that discussion of individual titles would concern its pipeline. The company added in general that it considers remakes and remasters an important way to bring past titles to a wider audience and continually examines how to develop titles that attract high expectations. Do Horii’s later remarks confirm anything?
No. In December 2025, Horii was reported as saying he could not talk about possible future developments, joking, “Wait, if I say that, you’ll figure it out!” and “I’ll get in trouble!” The coverage characterized the exchange as noncommittal, not as a concrete announcement.
