What the Terminus treasure chest Easter egg rewards
This is a side quest, separate from Terminus’s main Easter egg. Its steps take you across the prison island and nearby locations in the ocean, a map layout Activision describes as explorable by Tactical Raft and filled with hidden objectives. The reward is the Cursed Talisman, a risk-and-reward artifact: it can increase scoring potential, but being hit costs points. Guides differ on the precise benefit, so treat the exact bonus as unconfirmed rather than relying on a specific multiplier or health effect. Completing the quest is also reported to unlock the Treasure Hunter Trophy or Achievement.
Before you start
- Buy Melee Macchiato, whose machine is in the Bio Lab. You need it to reveal Captain Gregg’s concealed area.
- Bring three Molotovs for the three Cursed Coin encounters.
- Upgrade a weapon at least once if possible. The encounters spawn elite Manglers, so a stronger weapon makes them easier to handle.
- Be ready to travel by boat and dive underwater to retrieve the watch.
How to complete the treasure hunt
- Reveal Captain Gregg’s hiding place. Go to the Sea Caves near Speed Cola. Use Melee Macchiato to punch open the concealed area, then inspect the map beside the skeleton.
- Find the golden watch. Check the map and ping its red X. The watch’s location varies between matches. Take a boat to the marked island, dive to retrieve the golden item, and bring it back to Captain Gregg.
- Trigger the three Cursed Coin encounters. Returning the watch reveals three additional marks on the map. Visit the skeleton piles at Castle Rock Island, Temple Island, and Shipwreck; the order does not matter.
- Burn each skeleton pile and defeat its Mangler. Throw a Molotov at a marked pile to start the encounter. Kill the elite Mangler that appears, collect the Cursed Coin, and return it to Captain Gregg. Repeat at all three locations.
- Reach Crab Island and survive. Once all three coins have been returned, check the map for the final mark and travel to Crab Island. Survive three rounds there.
- Open the golden chest. After the survival condition is complete, a golden chest appears on Crab Island. Open it and collect the Cursed Talisman.
How the Cursed Talisman changes play
The Talisman’s appeal is higher scoring potential, balanced by a points penalty when you take damage. Gameranx describes the benefit as permanent Double Points, while Destructoid reports different benefit details, including extra health. Those accounts do not align exactly, so the reliable practical takeaway is the trade-off: the artifact rewards avoiding hits and punishes getting hit. Confirm its displayed effect in your current game before planning around a particular bonus.

Activision’s Terminus map guide focuses on the map’s main route rather than this side quest. The detailed walkthroughs are secondary sources, and no patch-specific change to the quest was established. If a trigger behaves differently in your current build, check the map and verify each step rather than assuming the reward mechanics or every interaction are unchanged.
