In retrospect, Cole’s dialogue in Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser expansion reads like a hint about the ancient history at the heart of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He says, “They made bodies from the earth, and the earth was afraid. It fought back, but they made it forget.” The line fits the later story’s ancient adversaries, but it never names who “they” are or what “the earth” means. It is compelling foreshadowing—not a confirmed explanation of the twist or proof of authorial intent.
What Cole says in Trespasser
In Trespasser, Cole describes an unnamed group making bodies from the earth, which then fears them and fights back. His exact line, reproduced in the Genitivi Chronicles dialogue transcript, is: “They made bodies from the earth, and the earth was afraid. It fought back, but they made it forget.” The transcript is a secondary transcription, not an official BioWare script.
Why the line sounds different after Veilguard
The Veilguard returns to ancient Dragon Age history. EA’s launch description says Solas’s ritual goes awry and releases two ancient adversaries. Read alongside that premise, Cole’s image of beings taking bodies from the earth—and the earth resisting before being made to forget—looks strikingly relevant. EA’s description establishes the Veilguard context, but does not explain Cole’s earlier words.
The connection is thematic rather than explicit: the later story gives Cole’s cryptic images a possible frame of reference, but his sentence does not identify the adversaries, name the earth, or lay out a complete account of what happened.

Did Cole reveal the Veilguard twist?
Not plainly. It is reasonable to read the line as foreshadowing, especially now that The Veilguard puts ancient adversaries at the center of its premise. But identifying Cole’s “they” and “earth” with specific parties or events is an inference from the resemblance, not something the line itself confirms.
Fan discussion has treated Cole’s cryptic remarks as possible hints about later lore, which helps explain why the line attracts attention. That discussion is not official confirmation. The available sources do not establish that BioWare deliberately planted this exact sentence to reveal the later story.
