Yes. EA’s agreements say that unauthorized use can violate its terms, and that circumventing a game’s technical protection measures terminates the game license. Depending on the violation, EA may also suspend access, revoke content entitlements, restrict a device, or terminate an account. Those are possible penalties—not proof that every player using pirated DLC will be detected or banned.
What EA’s terms say about pirated DLC
EA’s current User Agreement says its games use technical or content-protection measures to prevent piracy and unauthorized copying or use. It also states: “Attempting to circumvent, disable or tamper with these measures shall terminate this license.” The agreement therefore gives EA a contractual basis to end a game license when someone attempts to bypass those protections.
The User Agreement also describes EA’s ability to use technologies that may monitor information from online-capable games to enforce its rules. That general statement does not establish a specific Sims 4 scan for unlicensed DLC, explain how such a scan would work, or show that EA detects every instance.
The game-specific The Sims 4 PC EULA says, “Your license will terminate immediately if you attempt to circumvent the technical protection measures for the Software.” This EULA dates to 2014, so it is best read as legacy game-license language alongside EA’s current general agreement—not as a current, stand-alone policy guaranteeing an account ban.

What penalties EA may impose
EA’s User Agreement lists several possible responses to covered violations. It says EA may act when it determines that a user violated the agreement or used its services unlawfully, improperly, or fraudulently. The listed outcomes are possibilities under EA’s terms; they do not establish which penalty would apply to a particular Sims 4 piracy case.
| Outcome | What it means |
|---|---|
| Warning | EA may issue a warning about conduct it considers a violation. |
| Suspension or access change | EA may temporarily suspend or otherwise alter access to a game, service, or account. |
| Entitlement or content removal | EA may remove or revoke account- or device-level entitlements, or remove content. |
| Device or machine ban | EA may restrict a device from specific EA services. |
| Account termination | EA may terminate an account; its agreement says account termination can remove access to that account’s entitlements. |
EA says repeated rule-breaking may lead to account termination. Its agreement also says it may suspend or terminate use of its games and services without refunds if a user breaks the agreement or the law. Neither statement guarantees that every suspected infringement results in the same sanction.

How a lock, suspension, and ban differ
EA’s account penalty and appeal guidance distinguishes three terms:
- Lock: temporary loss of access after suspicious activity, such as repeated failed login attempts.
- Suspension: temporary loss of access after activity EA considers contrary to its User Agreement or Rules of Conduct.
- Ban: loss of access for an extended period or permanently. EA says full account bans are reserved for repeated or extreme violations.
These definitions describe EA’s general penalty categories; they do not map pirated Sims 4 DLC to a guaranteed outcome. EA does not publish a reliable number or percentage showing how often players are detected or banned for this specific conduct, so an individual account’s odds cannot be calculated from its public guidance.

- Open EA’s Penalty History and appeal guidance and review the penalty on your account.
- If you believe the action was made in error, submit an appeal through the process described there and provide relevant information.
- EA says its moderation team re-evaluates the original action and any additional information; it may uphold or modify the penalty. Do not make a false report—EA warns against doing so.
Legitimate DLC and ordinary mods are different issues
For paid content, EA’s official Sims 4 Marketplace and Sims 4 store list legitimate categories including Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs, Kits, Maker Packs, and bundles. Purchasing through official channels is the straightforward way to access paid content legitimately. EA’s published materials do not say that buying a pack later erases or grants immunity for earlier unauthorized activity.
Ordinary custom content and mods should not automatically be treated as pirated DLC. EA’s Sims 4 mod policy allows creators to identify mods as intended for The Sims 4 or a particular Expansion Pack, while reserving EA’s ability to address mods that infringe rights, harm gameplay integrity, or violate its agreement. That is a separate policy from obtaining paid DLC without authorization.

Contract terms are not a complete account of local law
EA’s agreements establish contractual consequences, including possible loss of a game license or account access. Copyright rules and other legal consequences depend on jurisdiction; EA’s terms alone do not determine what might apply under the law where a player lives.
