Under the 2014 D&D fifth-edition rules, yes: the weapon attack in booming blade can deal Sneak Attack damage if it meets Sneak Attack’s normal requirements. The cantrip is still cast with the Cast a Spell action, however, so it does not work with Extra Attack or other features that require the Attack action.
How the 2014 rules handle the interaction
In its 2019 Sage Advice Compendium, Wizards of the Coast explains that booming blade and green-flame blade use the Cast a Spell action, not the Attack action. The weapon attack made as part of either cantrip can still qualify for Sneak Attack. The compendium gives this example: “For example, if you have the Sneak Attack feature and cast green-flame blade with a finesse weapon, you can deal Sneak Attack damage to the target of the weapon attack if you have advantage on the attack roll and hit.” The ruling discusses both cantrips; its example uses green-flame blade. Read the Sage Advice Compendium (version 2.4, 2019).
This distinction is about the action, not whether the attack can trigger Sneak Attack. Because casting the cantrip uses the Cast a Spell action, it does not satisfy a feature’s requirement to take the Attack action. The compendium therefore says the cantrips do not combine with Extra Attack or other features that require the Attack action.
What Sneak Attack still requires
The cantrip does not waive any of Sneak Attack’s usual conditions. For the 2014 rules, the attack must use a qualifying Finesse or ranged weapon, and the rogue must meet the feature’s conditions: generally, have advantage on the attack roll, or have an eligible ally within 5 feet of the target while not having disadvantage. The attack must also hit.

So, for example, casting booming blade with a finesse weapon can deliver Sneak Attack when the attack hits and the required advantage or ally-positioning condition is met. Merely casting the cantrip, or hitting without meeting the feature’s conditions, is not enough.
What changes under the 2024 rules?
The 2024 Rogue’s Sneak Attack wording is revised, so the 2014 ruling should not be presented as a specific official ruling on the 2024 feature. The available official rules references do not provide a ruling that directly resolves this exact pairing under the 2024 Rogue text. Check the 2024 Rogue feature text and confirm which edition your table uses.

D&D Beyond says much older material remains usable with the 2024 rules, but that general compatibility guidance does not settle every rules interaction. Read D&D Beyond’s 2014-material compatibility guidance. If your character uses the 2024 Rogue alongside the older booming blade, ask the DM to adjudicate whether the interaction works at your table.

The Sage Advice Compendium describes its rulings as interpretations; the DM adjudicates the rules and decides whether to use an official ruling in play. For a 2014-rules character, the published answer is yes when the normal Sneak Attack conditions are satisfied. For a 2024-rules character, the table should make the edition-specific call rather than treating the 2014 ruling as automatically decisive.
