Choose the Titanfall 2 VR mod if you want to experience its single-player campaign in VR; choose a VR-supported mech game if cockpit combat is the main attraction. They offer different kinds of play, and the available project documentation does not establish a single winner for comfort, performance, visuals, or value.
First, know which Titanfall 2 VR mod you mean
“Titanfall 2 VR mod” can refer to two separate community projects. The TinyBlkDog project describes itself as “A VR mod for Titanfall 2’s single-player campaign.” Its README labels version 0.1.1 an alpha and documents a Northstar client plugin using OpenXR. CircuitLord’s repository describes a different project: an installer that sets up a separate VR profile. Their features and installation instructions are not interchangeable.
Neither project is an official EA or Respawn VR release. CircuitLord describes its projects as community-made and unaffiliated with or unendorsed by the game developers or publishers.
TinyBlkDog: an alpha Northstar plugin
The TinyBlkDog README lists Titanfall 2 on Steam or the EA app, Northstar installed and able to launch the game, an OpenXR runtime, and a PC-VR-capable GPU as requirements. Its manual setup involves copying a DLL and INI file into Northstar’s plugins directory, setting the OpenXR runtime, and launching the campaign through Northstar. Follow that project’s own documentation; these steps are not a guide to CircuitLord’s installer.

The README reports tests on Meta Quest 3 and Play For Dream MR, both using Virtual Desktop’s VDXR runtime. It describes other headsets and runtimes as untested, not incompatible. Features described for the alpha include six-degrees-of-freedom head tracking, motion-controller weapon aiming, cockpit HUD adjustments, and controller options.
The same documentation notes alternate-frame stereo, observed frame spikes, occasional lockups that can lose progress since the last checkpoint, and cutscenes that follow the player’s head. It says not to use the mod on official servers. The project is for single-player; the README advises checking with private Northstar server owners about their policies.

CircuitLord: an installer and separate VR profile
CircuitLord’s README says its installer can locate Steam, EA, or Xbox installations, install Northstar and the mod into a separate TF2VR profile, and keep VR campaign saves and settings separate from the ordinary campaign. The project describes full VR campaign support, stereo rendering, full-body inverse kinematics, manual reloads, and Titan controls. Those are the project’s own feature claims, not independently established results.
How the alternatives differ
| Option | What the documentation describes | Best fit | Mode and setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| TinyBlkDog Titanfall 2 VR mod | Alpha Northstar plugin; OpenXR, head tracking, motion-controller weapon aiming, and cockpit HUD adjustments are described in its README. | Someone who specifically wants Titanfall 2’s campaign in VR and is comfortable with an alpha mod. | Single-player campaign. Requires the base game, Northstar, an OpenXR runtime, and a PC-VR-capable GPU; manual plugin setup. |
| CircuitLord Titanfall 2 VR mod | Installer for a separate profile; its README describes stereo rendering, full-body IK, manual reloads, and Titan controls. | Someone seeking a separate installer-based VR campaign setup. | VR campaign profile, with saves and settings separate from the ordinary campaign, according to the project README. |
| Vox Machinae | Its Steam listing describes a VR-supported mech game with a single-player campaign, multiplayer, motion-controlled cockpit operations, and offline bots. | Someone whose priority is inhabiting and operating a mech cockpit. | Campaign, multiplayer, and offline bots; VR-supported game listing. |
| Iron Rebellion | MECHA VR’s September 2026 comparison article describes it as multiplayer-focused cockpit mech combat with bots for solo practice. | Someone looking for multiplayer mech combat or bot practice. | Multiplayer-focused, with bots for solo practice, according to MECHA VR’s studio-published article. |
MECHA VR is the studio behind MECHA, so its Iron Rebellion comparison is commercially interested, rather than an independent evaluation. The material reviewed does not support a similarly detailed comparison of other named titles such as UNDERDOGS or Roboquest VR.

Choose by the experience you want
Pick a Titanfall 2 mod for the campaign
Titanfall 2 combines pilot combat with Titan sequences. A mod is the relevant route if your goal is to revisit that campaign in VR, rather than to play a game built around cockpit mech combat. Decide which project you are considering before installing anything: the TinyBlkDog README describes a Northstar plugin, while CircuitLord documents a separate installer and profile.
Pick Vox Machinae for cockpit operations across modes
Vox Machinae is the clearest documented fit here if you want to operate a mech from its cockpit and want options that include a campaign, multiplayer, and offline bots. It differs in pace and format from a pilot-and-Titan campaign; it is not a one-for-one Titanfall replacement.

Pick Iron Rebellion for multiplayer-focused mech combat
If multiplayer mech combat is the draw, Iron Rebellion is described that way by MECHA VR’s September 2026 comparison article, which also notes bots for solo practice. Treat that characterization with the source’s commercial interest in mind.
What to weigh before choosing a mod
- Setup: TinyBlkDog’s documented path relies on Northstar and OpenXR plus manual plugin setup. CircuitLord describes an installer that creates a separate profile. Do not assume one project’s requirements or instructions apply to the other.
- Stability and comfort: The TinyBlkDog alpha documentation discloses frame spikes, occasional lockups, and head-following cutscenes. Fast artificial movement may also affect individual comfort. The reviewed sources do not provide an independent, controlled comparison of comfort or performance across these games and mods.
- Play mode and server rules: TinyBlkDog explicitly warns against official servers and describes its mod as single-player. For private Northstar servers, check the owner’s policy.
- Hardware: TinyBlkDog lists a PC-VR-capable GPU and OpenXR runtime. A Quest 3 is one headset the project reports testing, but it is only part of a PC-VR setup; the base game and project-specific installation are also required. The reported tests do not establish compatibility with every headset or runtime.
Which should you play?
For Titanfall 2’s story and pilot/Titan switching, consider the mod that matches the setup you are prepared to follow, and read its current documentation before installing. For a game centered on operating a mech cockpit, Vox Machinae has documented campaign, multiplayer, and offline-bot options; Iron Rebellion is described as multiplayer-focused, with bots for solo practice. The available sources do not establish a reliable overall winner for visual quality, latency, motion-control fidelity, comfort, or value.
