Cities: Skylines II is still being updated, but whether it is worth playing depends on what you expect from its simulation and how well it runs on your PC. The latest surfaced PC update is patch 1.6.2f1, released September 15, 2026. That is evidence of ongoing development—not proof that every performance or gameplay concern has been resolved. This is a current-state assessment based on official updates and support information, not a firsthand or controlled gameplay review.
Is Cities: Skylines II worth playing now?
It is easier to recommend to players drawn to building and managing a city than to anyone looking for a reliably smooth experience across a wide range of PCs. Paradox describes the game as a city-building management game, and its September 2026 update addressed a broad set of simulation, presentation, and tool issues. But the publisher also calls it performance-heavy, and the available evidence does not establish a universal hardware target or guarantee that the update has fixed players’ reported problems.
The practical decision is to weigh five things: simulation reliability, performance at the city size you want, the flexibility of zoning and building tools, whether you prefer creative city design or a demanding management challenge, and how much of your desired content is in the base game rather than paid add-ons. The available sources do not provide a controlled comparison with other city builders, so those trade-offs should be judged against your own priorities rather than a claimed head-to-head winner.
What has changed in the latest PC update?
Paradox’s September 15, 2026 announcement says Iceflake Studios took over development. The official Steam community page listed PC patch 1.6.2f1, titled “Autumn Breeze,” on the same date. Its notes cover garbage-truck behavior and garbage’s effect on happiness, company renting priorities, residential demand in large cities, visuals, water flow, the user interface, the Asset Editor, and Paradox Mods. - This Content Creator Pack adds 10 maps that represent different biomes such as Boreal, Desert, Tropical, and Temperate.
The breadth of those changes suggests that development is addressing several parts of the experience rather than focusing only on graphics. However, a list of fixes and adjustments does not establish that every player’s performance, simulation, or feature concerns are settled. The patch notes say old saves remain loadable; they also warn that the UI framework change may affect a limited number of mods.
How does it run on PC?
Paradox’s support article, updated August 4, 2026, calls Cities: Skylines II “a performance-heavy game.” That is a useful warning, not a frame-rate benchmark: the article says players’ hardware varies, and the available evidence does not support one hardware recommendation or a particular frame rate. If you plan to build very large cities, consider performance on your own system rather than assuming the experience will be consistent across PCs. See Paradox’s performance troubleshooting guide.
Temporary dark buildings or visual artifacts
Paradox says virtual-texture processing can temporarily darken buildings or cause graphical artifacts. Its guidance is to allow that processing to finish; the time depends on the player’s hardware and usually does not take longer than a minute. This explains one possible temporary visual issue, but it is not a promise about overall performance or a remedy for every graphics problem.

What do players and review scores say?
There is no established current critic-score consensus or confirmed October 2026 Steam-review percentage in the available evidence. A few individual reviews visible on Steam and dated October 4, 2026 raise concerns about performance, simulation and NPC behavior, zoning, missing or incomplete features, and paid content. They are anecdotal, self-selected comments; they cannot stand in for the full player base. View Steam community reviews.

Park Adventures
Paradox describes Park Adventures as a modular park-building expansion spanning city parks, zoos, amusement parks, and nature reserves. It is planned to add a park economy, more than 100 assets, and five maps. In the October 8, 2026 Steam catalog, it was marked “Coming soon,” so those features should be treated as announced content rather than released content on that date.
City Vacations
Paradox describes City Vacations as adding visitor-focused buildings and attractions, along with tools for managing tourist flows, transport preferences, and spending. The announcement establishes the planned content, not that it was available to play on October 8, 2026.
Who should consider playing it?
- Consider it if you want a city-building management game and are comfortable checking current updates, mod compatibility, and performance on your own PC.
- Be cautious if you need a dependable performance experience at large city scales, expect every feature or reported issue to be settled, or want upcoming expansion content immediately.
- Separate base-game value from DLC value. The Expansion Pass 2 announcement bundles released and future content; do not count unreleased additions as playable features until their release is confirmed.
For any review based on direct play, the most useful evidence would state what was tested and on which system, and distinguish observed performance from official patch notes or player anecdotes. This assessment is not based on firsthand gameplay testing.
