How many CIG employees were laid off after Citizencon?
The only reported figure was an anonymous source’s estimate of around a dozen affected staff, described by Insider Gaming as approximately 1% of CIG’s workforce. The outlet did not verify that count, and CIG did not provide an official total in the reporting. Insider Gaming’s November 28, 2024 report said the departures had taken place over the preceding days.
Which teams were reportedly affected?
Insider Gaming’s sources said quality assurance (QA) was mainly affected, while noting that the full scope of the departures was unknown. The report does not establish a complete list of teams or roles involved.
Did CIG confirm the layoffs?
Insider Gaming said CIG had made no internal or public announcement about the layoffs or possible restructuring as of November 28, 2024. 80 Level’s November 29 follow-up said the exact number remained unknown pending an announcement and repeated the approximate dozen-person estimate. GameReactor’s November 29 follow-up likewise said the number was unspecified and could be higher or lower than that estimate. These follow-ups do not independently confirm the count. The reporting reviewed here does not establish whether CIG later confirmed this particular round.

How does this differ from the earlier 2024 layoffs?
Insider Gaming separately referred to an earlier 2024 reduction affecting an estimated 100 or so staff at CIG’s Austin and Los Angeles offices. That was a distinct episode, and the figure was also an estimate rather than an audited count. It should not be added to the November estimate as though either number were company-confirmed.
What is known about the Citizencon connection?
Citizencon provides the timing context in the reports, but the available coverage does not establish that the event caused the departures. Insider Gaming also cited claims that employees faced seven-day work weeks before the event and included criticism from a former employee. Those are reported allegations, not independently verified evidence of CIG policy or a demonstrated cause of the layoffs.
