These are troubleshooting checks—not guaranteed fixes. If they do not resolve the crash, the developer asks players to send an in-game F1 bug report.
Before troubleshooting, note when the crash happens
Write down whether the game closes at launch, while loading a save, or during play. Capture any error message and note what you were doing just before the crash. Change one thing at a time and retry; that makes it easier to tell whether a check affected the problem.
The checks below combine Steam’s general launch guidance with advice from a PeDePe developer reply dated April 13, 2025. They are not a tested sequence, and no success rate has been published.
Try these eight checks

Record the crash point and any error
Distinguish a launch crash from one that occurs while loading a save or after playing for a while. Keep the exact error text, if any, for your own troubleshooting and a later bug report.

Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam’s City Bus Manager support listing gives these PC requirements:

Compare your actual graphics hardware and dedicated VRAM with the listing; do not assume a laptop’s integrated graphics is equivalent to a dedicated GPU. Also check that the drive has enough free space.

Restart Windows and install available updates
Steam’s general launch troubleshooting guidance recommends updating Windows. Restart after installing available updates, then try the game again.

Update relevant drivers
Steam also recommends updating computer drivers. Check for graphics and other relevant driver updates through your PC maker or the component maker’s supported method; restart if the installer requests it.

Verify the game files in Steam
Use Steam’s installed-game file verification option for City Bus Manager. Steam includes file verification among its general steps for games that fail to launch. Let the check finish, then test the game again.

Close non-essential software
Exit non-essential programs and retry. Steam recommends disabling non-essential software as a way to check for conflicts. If the crash stops, reopen programs selectively to identify whether one is associated with the problem.

For crashes during play, check memory and mod buses
If the crash occurs after a session is underway, observe memory use around the time it happens. Developer Niklas advised checking whether RAM is full, trying the Windows swap file if it is, and testing with mod buses disabled if many are in use. Treat these as possible mitigations, not guaranteed fixes: a player in the same discussion later reported that the swap-file suggestion did not help.
If testing without mod buses, protect your original save and do not overwrite it. The developer specifically cautioned players to preserve the original savegame.

Send an in-game F1 bug report if it persists
If the checks do not help, the developer asks players to create an in-game F1 bug report. The reply says this allows the team to receive the savegame and profile the problem. Include the crash point and error details you recorded.
Should you add more RAM?
Not automatically. Steam recommends 16 GB, and the developer suggests checking whether RAM is full when a crash occurs, but neither fact shows that every crash is caused by low memory. First monitor memory use and consider whether your PC is below the published recommendation. Before buying memory, confirm your device supports the memory type and capacity, and check its available slots. A RAM upgrade is not a remedy for crashes caused by drivers, damaged game files, software conflicts, mods, or a game defect.
What these checks can—and cannot—establish
Steam’s launch steps are general platform advice, while the memory, mod-bus, save-protection, and F1-report suggestions come from a developer support discussion. The available evidence does not establish a universal cause, a guaranteed fix, or a measured success rate. If the crash continues, the in-game report is the route the developer identifies for investigating the save and profiling the problem.
