When did Civilization VII come out?
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII launched worldwide on February 11, 2025. 2K and Firaxis had announced in June 2024 that the strategy game was coming in 2025. At launch, 2K described it as the franchise’s first simultaneous release on console and PC. 2K’s launch announcement
The game is a turn-based strategy experience in which you guide an empire through successive Ages. You choose a new civilization for each Age while building cities, developing technology, and cooperating or competing with rivals.
Which platforms can play Civilization VII?

Mac requirements

According to 2K’s support FAQ, online features require an internet connection and a linked 2K Account; single-player does not require a linked account. Linking the account enables cross-platform multiplayer. 2K’s launch announcement also says online play on PlayStation and Xbox requires a separate paid console subscription. What is coming to Civilization VII?
2K’s September 5, 2026 roadmap announcement plans two additions for 2027. Dates may change, and Earthrise’s exact release date has not been announced. 2K’s roadmap announcement
Arc of Tomorrow: free update
The planned free update adds an Atomic Age covering approximately the 1950s through the 2050s. 2K says it will include period-specific gameplay, new leaders and civilizations, nuclear gameplay, city-state release, Great Works of Film, and manufactured goods.

Earthrise: paid expansion
Earthrise is planned as the game’s first paid expansion, exploring spaceflight and environmental adaptability across the campaign. It requires the base game; the specific launch date remains unannounced.
The same roadmap announcement anticipated Update 1.5.0 later in September 2026 and mentioned a True Start Location: Earth map and other quality-of-life changes. That announcement alone does not establish whether the update has since released.
