This guide therefore ranks those two confirmed examples by the jobs they can serve, and explains why the best Gambit weapon depends on its role and perk roll—not its name or reward tier alone.
What counts as a Gambit weapon?
“Gambit weapon” can mean gear exclusive to Gambit, items currently in its reward pool, or any weapon that works well in the activity. Those are different lists. This ranking covers only Spare Rations and 21% Delirium, the reprised examples Bungie specifically names in its May 28, 2026 Gambit Ops preview. It is not a complete ranking of the live reward pool or every weapon that can perform well in Gambit.

Gambit combines PvE wave clearing and mote collection with a team race to bank motes, summon a Primeval and defeat it; the opposing team can send an invader. A useful weapon can contribute in several phases, but no single role makes a gun automatically best for every player or match. Bungie’s Gambit Guide also explains that matches earn Infamy and rank progression unlocks unique Gambit weapons and armor.
How the ranking works
The placements below are editorial judgments based on the confirmed weapon identities and previewed perk examples, not a Bungie tier list or a controlled performance test. They weigh five practical questions:
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
- PvE clear: Can the weapon help handle enemy waves and keep the team moving through the mote phase?
- Invasion and counter-invasion: Does its general weapon role suit engaging opponents at range or responding to an invader? These are role-based considerations, not performance claims from Bungie’s preview.
- Primeval contribution: Can its role and a fitting perk setup contribute during the boss phase?
- Perk synergy and versatility: Do the perks reinforce a clear job, or make the weapon useful in more than one phase?
- Availability and reward tier: Can a player pursue it through the current activity rewards? Bungie confirms Gambit Ops reward changes, but not a complete current item-by-item source list.
Do not use gear tier as a substitute for evaluating the roll. Bungie’s July 2, 2025 explanation of weapons and gear tiering says that perk synergy can let a lower-tier weapon outperform a higher-tier one. The previewed perk lists below are examples, not confirmation that every listed perk combination can roll together.
1. 21% Delirium — the sustained-fire option
Best fit: Players looking for a sustained-fire weapon to build around for PvE waves. Of the two confirmed examples, 21% Delirium is the more natural candidate to assess for prolonged firing and perk-supported clearing; that is a role-based judgment, not a claim of measured Gambit superiority.
Rank #2
- Online only and requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
- An incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Bungie says the returning machine gun has a random-roll pool, with its original static roll still a possible outcome. The preview names examples including Overflow, Reconstruction, Fourth Time’s the Charm, Feeding Frenzy, Killing Tally, One for All, Frenzy and Jolting Feedback. Those examples suggest several potential approaches, from reload or ammunition support to sustained-fire damage, but the preview does not verify exact legal combinations. Check the weapon’s current in-game roll before planning a build around a specific pairing.
- Wave clear: Its sustained-fire role makes it the more plausible of these two examples for extended PvE engagements.
- Invasions: The available evidence does not establish it as a preferred invading or counter-invasion choice. Treat that as a separate role decision rather than assuming a PvE-oriented setup will excel against Guardians.
- Primeval: Sustained-fire perks may support a boss-phase use case, but the preview provides no comparative damage figures or Gambit-specific test results.
- Roll and rank caveat: Its placement reflects its apparent role potential, not proof that a particular roll is obtainable or best.
2. Spare Rations — the flexible dueling option
Best fit: Players who want to evaluate a hand cannon for responsive dueling and choose a PvP- or PvE-oriented roll. Bungie describes the reprised Spare Rations as a Stasis Lightweight Hand Cannon, with a refreshed pool intended to preserve a responsive dueling identity while adding PvE and PvP options.

Rank #3
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
The preview lists perk examples including Slideshot, Rapid Hit, Snapshot, Moving Target, Firefly, Keep Away, Kill Clip, Opening Shot, Eye of the Storm, Swashbuckler, Desperate Measures, One for All and Explosive Payload. These are not evidence that every listed perk can be paired with every other one.
- Wave clear: A PvE-focused perk setup could make it useful during the mote phase, but the preview alone does not establish a best clear roll.
- Invasions and counter-invasions: Its described dueling identity makes it a reasonable candidate to consider for Guardian engagements. That does not establish it as the strongest Gambit option for either job.
- Primeval: Its contribution depends on the role and roll; no boss-damage comparison is available here.
- Roll and rank caveat: A PvP-focused roll and a PvE-focused roll may merit different evaluations. Judge the actual combination and intended job, rather than treating the weapon’s name as a universal ranking.
What the 2026 Gambit Ops changes mean for weapon chasing
Bungie’s May 28, 2026 Return of the Director preview describes Gambit being placed in the Gambit Ops structure, with a tiered reward pool, bonus drops and bonus focusing. Its examples include Spare Rations and 21% Delirium; it does not enumerate the full current weapon pool or verify each weapon’s acquisition route.
Rank #4
- Available 9.3.18. Playable 9.4.18 at 10AM PDT
- Destiny 2
- Expansion I: Curse of Osiris
- Expansion II: Warmind
- Destiny 2: Forsaken
Bungie’s May 21, 2026 Gambit Ops scoring update says the system emphasizes team progress through the match’s major phases. Under the described system, reaching the Primeval phase earns an S grade and Tier 5 gear; Gambit Rank adds a bonus. A separate 2026 focusing preview says the Gambit reputation-rank reward track was restored and focusing updated to include tiered gear using Gambit Engrams. These are published update details, not a guarantee that menus, pools or reward routes remain unchanged in every later build.
For a specific weapon, check the live Gambit Ops and vendor menus before choosing what to chase or focus. The sources above establish the reward-system changes and two weapon examples, not a current full roster, exact drop rates, or a complete weapon-by-weapon acquisition table.

Quick Recap
How to choose between the two
- Choose 21% Delirium as the more natural starting point if your priority is a sustained-fire PvE role, then verify its current roll and whether its perks support that job.
- Consider Spare Rations if you want a hand cannon with a stated dueling identity and want to pursue a roll for PvP or PvE use.
- For either weapon, inspect the actual perk combination and current reward source in-game. The Bungie previews do not verify every possible pairing or the full live pool.
- Choose for the job you need to fill. A weapon’s tier or Gambit association alone does not establish its value in a particular match phase.
