Which platforms got the upgrade?
The current-generation console editions are available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Larian describes the release as a visually upgraded console version, not a remake or remaster. Larian’s release announcement and its official series history give the December 15, 2025 launch date.

The upgrade offer concerns owners of the matching earlier console version: Switch to Switch 2, PS4 to PS5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. Owning the PC version does not, according to Larian’s announcement, grant a console copy.
How to claim the free upgrade
Larian’s instructions depend on whether the previous version is installed:

- Experience an unconventional story and journey
- If the game is installed on your previous-generation console, Larian says you should receive the update applicable to that console.
- If it is not installed, open the Divinity: Original Sin 2 store page on Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S and download the upgrade.
Make sure you are signed in to the account that owns the eligible game. Store pages and entitlement flows can vary by platform and region.

What changes—and what does not
Larian calls the release a visually upgraded way to play the game on current-generation consoles. The studio’s FAQ is explicit: “It’s not a remake or a remaster; this is your way to experience the classic DOS:2 on the current generation of consoles!” The announcement does not establish specific resolution or frame-rate targets, or promise new gameplay content, so those should not be assumed.
The PS5 store currently labels the product “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” That is a PlayStation Store designation, not a claim about the Xbox or Switch 2 editions.

Recent PS5 and Xbox patch context
On March 5, 2026, Larian published hotfix 3.6.0.7178759 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The notice lists fixes for Xbox performance and frame-rate drops, an equipment bug, loading speed for some savegames, Xbox Teleportation behavior, and Xbox multiplayer disconnections. These notes describe that specific patch; they do not establish the status of every later build or the Switch 2 version. Larian’s support site carries its platform and update information.

Larian says Divinity: Original Sin 2 is standalone, so you do not need to play an earlier game first. It supports solo play, online multiplayer, and couch co-op, and uses a classless character-building system with five playable races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Lizard, and Undead.

The Definitive Edition’s reworked Act 4, balance changes across races, skills, and enemy encounters, and Story Mode difficulty are features of that edition, as described in Larian’s Definitive Edition FAQ. They should not be mistaken for new additions made specifically by the current-generation upgrade.
