DayZ’s Xbox error 0x00050017 has been reported with the message “Communication error, resource unreachable or unavailable.” The available reports show failures associated with authentication or fetching server listings, but do not establish one cause or a fix that works for everyone. Try reversible checks first, then use the full error details to guide support.
What the DayZ BIOS error says
Bohemia Interactive tracker reports describe “BIOS Error” or “BIOS ERROR” with code 0x00050017 and the message “Communication error, resource unreachable or unavailable.” The label and wording are what players reported; they do not by themselves identify a specific hardware fault or explain why the communication failed.
One Xbox Experimental report dated September 24, 2022, also recorded an ExchangeXBOXAuthCode failure. A separate report, submitted January 16, 2023, described being unable to get past the menu to reach public or private servers and included a [GetServers] error. These reports suggest different points in a communication or authentication path, but they do not prove that every instance has the same cause. Read the September 2022 tracker report and the January 2023 report.
What to try on Xbox
The reports do not verify a universal fix. Start with low-risk checks that can help distinguish a temporary game or connection issue from a persistent one; treat them as general troubleshooting, not confirmed remedies for this code.

- Fully quit and relaunch DayZ. Close the game rather than leaving it suspended, then open it again and check whether the error persists.
- Check for updates. Confirm that DayZ and the Xbox console have installed any available updates.
- Check other online services on the same connection. If those also fail, that is useful information when deciding whether to contact your internet provider. If they work, it still does not prove the cause lies with DayZ.
- Note the exact error and where it appears. Record the complete text and any suffix, such as
[GetServers]orExchangeXBOXAuthCode. The suffix can help distinguish the reported context when asking for help.
Router filtering: a dated suggestion, not a confirmed fix
In comments on a January 2023 tracker report, a DayZ representative suggested manually allowing .bistudio.com through the router and contacting the internet provider if needed. The representative wrote: “Can you try to to manually allow .bistudio.com in your router?” This was case-specific historical guidance; it does not establish that router filtering causes every 0x00050017 error or that changing this setting resolves the issue today. See the tracker report and comments.
If you are comfortable reviewing router security or filtering settings, check whether a narrow rule for the suggested domain is appropriate for your equipment. Do not broadly disable router security. If you are unsure how to make a safe change, ask your internet provider or official support for guidance.

When to contact support or your ISP
If the error continues after basic checks, collect the details that can help someone diagnose the failure:
- When the problem began and whether it happens every time.
- The full error message, code, and any suffix such as
[GetServers]orExchangeXBOXAuthCode. - Your Xbox model, DayZ version, and network type.
- Whether the issue affects multiple DayZ servers, and whether other online services work on the same connection.
Share those details with official DayZ support. Contact your ISP if you suspect connection or router filtering issues, or need help assessing router settings. The January 2023 tracker submission was marked “Reviewed,” but that status is not proof of a universal product defect or a published fix.

What the reports do not establish
The cited reports are historical incidents, not a live service-status check or a controlled test. They do not establish that DayZ servers are currently down, that a particular update caused the error, how often the error occurs, or how likely any suggested step is to work. A separate player report from October 2022 said uninstalling and restarting had not resolved that player’s instance, so a reinstall should not be treated as a guaranteed solution.
