Reign of the Warlock adds the Warlock as a playable class in Diablo II: Resurrected. Blizzard calls it the first new playable class for Diablo II in 25 years. The expansion also brings endgame updates and quality-of-life features, but Xbox Game Pass access to the base game does not include the expansion.
Why the Warlock is a landmark addition
Blizzard Entertainment describes Reign of the Warlock as a major update that brings “the first new playable class to Diablo II in 25 years.” The announcement refers to Diablo II: Resurrected; it does not describe a new class added to the original 2000 release as a separate game.

The Warlock is built around three skill trees: demonic binding, eldritch weapons, and arts of chaos. Together, they offer distinct approaches to combat, from commanding demons to manipulating weapons or attacking with hellfire and void.
How the Warlock’s skill trees work
Demonic binding
Bind and command demons, including Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers. The Warlock can also consume a bound demon to augment their own abilities, making demon allies part of the character’s toolkit as well as combat presence.
#1 Best Overall
Eldritch weapons
Use eldritch skills to manipulate weapons and apply hexes. Blizzard also says the Warlock can wield a two-handed weapon in one hand alongside an off-hand item.
Arts of chaos
Use hellfire and void effects for ranged attacks. This tree provides a more spell-focused combat style than the demon- and weapon-centered options.
What else Reign of the Warlock adds
The expansion’s features reach beyond the new class, combining additional combat content with systems for organizing items and tracking collections.
- Expanded Terror Zones: Players can select zones using consumables, and the rotation changes every 30 minutes rather than every hour, according to Blizzard.
- Colossal Ancients: A new pinnacle encounter.
- Warlock gear and runewords: New equipment options associated with the class.
- Chronicle: An item-collection tracker.
- Loot filter: An in-game option for filtering loot.
- Expanded stash tabs and character slots: Blizzard lists additional stash tabs and two extra character slots with the purchase.
How to get the expansion
Blizzard lists two purchase routes for players who want the expansion. The announcement does not provide a price comparison by region, so check the relevant platform storefront for current availability and cost.

Transfer existing characters before November 16, 2026
A Blizzard forum notice posted October 6, 2026 says transfers of existing Expansion characters into the Reign of the Warlock era will end on November 16, 2026. Blizzard says the change is intended to close a route for items acquired through automated farming to enter the new era and protect a fair experience. If you have an eligible character to move, complete the transfer before the stated deadline.
