Try reversible software checks first
- Record the installed build and restart Steam. Note when the problem began and whether it follows a particular update. Restart Steam, then check whether Deadlock has an update available.
- Verify the game’s files in Steam. In the Library, right-click Deadlock and open Properties; under Installed Files, select Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish, then test the game again.
- Restore default controls and graphics settings. If you changed key bindings or graphics options, return them to their defaults and check whether the symptom changes.
- Disable overlays one at a time. Test with an overlay disabled, then re-enable it before testing another. Changing one variable at a time makes it easier to tell whether anything affected the failure.
- Remove custom launch options temporarily. If you have added launch options in Steam, record them, clear them for a test, and restore them if they make no difference.

Be cautious with destructive or broad changes

What later player reports do—and don’t—show
A player on the official Deadlock forums reported crashing in nearly every game after a minor update in July 2026 and asked whether to wait for another patch. That is an individual account: it shows that at least one player described update-associated crashes, but it does not establish how common they were or whether they were the same issue discussed in May.
