The headline’s two open questions are now settled: Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred premiered at The Game Awards in December 2025 and launched on April 28, 2026; the game also came to Nintendo Switch 2 in the Age of Hatred Collection, which Nintendo listed as available on September 16, 2026.
What The Game Awards announcement turned out to be
In November 2025, associate game director Zaven Haroutunian urged fans to watch The Game Awards, telling PC Gamer: “Everyone should be watching it. We’re all gamers, we’re gonna watch it.” That was a tease, not confirmation of what would be shown. PC Gamer’s November 10 report records the comment.
Blizzard then gave Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred its world premiere at The Game Awards on December 11, 2025. Xbox Wire’s recap described a campaign against Mephisto in Skovos, two new classes, skill-tree reworks, a higher level cap, and an overhauled endgame. The expansion launched April 28, 2026, for Battle.net, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Xbox Wire’s recap has the announcement and platform details.
Diablo IV on Switch 2: confirmed and available
The Switch 2 version is no longer a rumor. GameSpot reported on August 5, 2026, that classification listings and Dealabs reporting pointed to a port, while noting that its announcement timing and whether it would include the expansion were unclear then. Blizzard confirmed the version in its September 12, 2026 BlizzCon recap: Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection was coming to Switch 2. Nintendo’s US news listing subsequently said the collection was “now available” on September 16, 2026.
