To trade in Diablo 4, open the Action Wheel, select another player, choose Invite to Trade, then add eligible items or Gold to the trade window. Check both offers before locking in and accepting. Trade eligibility changes, so check an item’s tooltip for Account Bound and confirm that the item can enter the current trade window.
How to start a trade in Diablo 4
- Bring up the Action Wheel: press E on keyboard or Up on a controller.
- Select the player you want to trade with and choose Invite to Trade.
- After the other player accepts, add eligible items or Gold in the trade window.
- Review the exact items and amounts on both sides. When everything is correct, both players lock in their offers and accept the trade.
Before accepting, check that the offer has not changed and that the displayed item is the one you intended to receive. For stackable goods, use the trade window rather than dropping them on the ground: Blizzard says the drop-to-trade method was disabled, while stackables remain tradeable through the trade screen. Wowhead’s Season 12 trading guide describes the interface flow; Blizzard’s 3.0 patch notes document the stackable-item change.

What can you trade?
There is no comprehensive current Blizzard list covering every item and currency. A Season 12 list from Wowhead identifies the following categories, but eligibility can depend on the specific item and its state. Use this as a season-specific guide, not a guarantee that every item in a category can be traded.
| Category | Season 12 guide listing |
|---|---|
| Equipment | Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary and Unique items are listed as tradeable. |
| Consumables and materials | Gems, Elixirs, Incense and Boss Summoning Materials are listed as tradeable. |
| Gold | Listed as tradeable. |
| Item states and types | Mythic Unique items, and items that are imprinted, enchanted, tempered or masterworked, are listed as non-tradeable. Temper Manuals are also listed as non-tradeable. |
| Other currencies and goods | Murmuring Obols, Red Dust, Platinum, Stock Goods, Unusual Materials and Gem Fragments are listed as non-tradeable. |
These classifications come from Wowhead’s Season 12 guide, not an official Blizzard master list. Blizzard’s 3.0 patch notes also record a fix for a bug that prevented non-Mythic Charms and Seals from being traded, another reason older item lists may no longer reflect current behavior.

How to tell whether a specific item is restricted
Check the item tooltip for Account Bound, then see whether the item can be added to the trade window. A Blizzard forum support response identifies that tooltip notice as a sign that an item cannot be traded. However, the same response gives an older eligibility list that conflicts with the Season 12 guide, so its category list should not be treated as definitive for the current season. Blizzard’s forum response is useful for the tooltip marker; the live tooltip and trade window are the practical checks for an individual item.

Gold is listed as tradeable; several other currencies and goods are not. In particular, the Season 12 guide lists Murmuring Obols, Red Dust, Platinum, Stock Goods, Unusual Materials and Gem Fragments as non-tradeable. Do not assume a currency can be exchanged just because it appears in your inventory.

You can look for a partner through the in-game Trade Channel or player communities. The game does not have an in-game auction house, according to the Season 12 guide. External trading services are optional; their availability, safety and relationship to Blizzard are not established here, so do not treat any as official or necessary.

Trade safely
- Keep the exchange in the trade window. Blizzard specifically says stackable items can be traded there, while trading them by dropping them was disabled.
- Verify the exact item, its state and the amount and type of currency before accepting.
- Do not accept a request to drop an item on the ground as part of an exchange.
- If an expected item cannot be offered, check its tooltip and current trade-window behavior rather than relying on an older category list.
