DEKAVITA7 was a monitor-and-controller accessory that attached to a Sony PS Vita TV, adding a 7-inch screen for supported games. It was not a standalone console: owners also needed the PS Vita TV itself. GAMETECH opened a conditional preorder project in Japan in November 2014; after it met the project’s target, the product was released on 17 September 2015.
What DEKAVITA7 did
DEKAVITA7 (デカビタセブン) combined a screen and controller in a handheld-style unit that attached to the back of the PS Vita TV. Contemporary 2014 coverage described a 7-inch IPS display with 1024 × 600 resolution. The setup let users play titles supported by PS Vita TV on the accessory’s own screen, rather than connecting the host console to a television.
The distinction matters: DEKAVITA7 was an accessory, not a portable Vita console with its own game hardware. It relied on the PS Vita TV host, and its advertised support was for PS Vita TV-compatible titles—not every PS Vita game. What the PS Vita TV host required
The accessory’s form factor did not remove the need to obtain and operate the host console. Sony introduced PS Vita TV as a compact, TV-connected platform using PS Vita hardware and system software. The original unit measured approximately 65.0 × 105.0 × 13.6 mm, weighed about 110 g, supported 720p, 1080i, or 480p video output, and had 1 GB of built-in memory. Sony’s base package included the console, HDMI cable, AC adapter, power cord, and printed materials. A separately sold DUALSHOCK 3 was required for operation; the Japanese value pack included that controller and an 8 GB memory card. A used DEKAVITA7 listing may not include the host, controller, or other items needed for a working setup, so check the stated contents rather than assuming they come together.
What to check before buying a used setup
- Identify the host: Confirm that a PS Vita TV is included or available separately; DEKAVITA7 cannot function as a standalone console.
- Check the box contents: Verify whether the listing includes a DUALSHOCK 3, power accessories, and any memory card you need. The original base and value packages differed in what they included.
- Confirm the game: Look for PS Vita TV compatibility. The announcement’s launch-era count of more than 1,300 PS Vita software titles was a historical figure, not a current compatibility guarantee.
- Assess condition: Ask about screen, controls, connectors, and battery condition. The reported “up to five hours” was contemporary product information and does not establish how long a used unit’s battery lasts today.
- Verify the transaction: Current stock, condition, and resale prices were not established in the cited historical product announcements. Check the seller’s actual listing and return terms.
Why the old headline needs a date
DEKAVITA7’s story is a small piece of PS Vita-era hardware history: a conditional Japanese preorder in late 2014 became a released accessory in September 2015. It offered a 7-inch, 1024 × 600 screen in a controller-style shell, but only as part of a PS Vita TV setup. The original preorder is long past, so the old “now available” wording should not be read as a current buying notice.
