The Xbox Series X|S controller does have USB-C, so you can connect it to the console with a USB-A-to-USB-C cable.
Which USB ports does the Xbox Series X have?
Xbox’s current US product specifications list three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports for the Series X. The specification gives the port count and USB standard; Xbox’s controller setup guide identifies the console-side connector as USB Type-A.
Xbox’s current product listing also describes support for a USB 3.1 external hard drive: Xbox Series X specifications.
Can you connect a USB-C cable to an Xbox Series X?
Not directly to the console’s USB ports: the setup guide specifies a USB Type-A plug for the console end. For a wired controller connection, use a USB-A-to-USB-C cable: its USB-C end plugs into the Xbox Series X|S controller, and its USB-A end plugs into an open port on the console. The controller’s USB-C port does not mean the console has one.

Is USB storage the same as a USB-C port?
No. USB storage support describes using an external drive; it does not change the connector type on the console. Xbox lists USB 3.1 external HDD support separately from its Storage Expansion Card, which it says matches the console’s custom SSD performance. These are distinct storage options, not USB-C ports. See Xbox’s current Series X specifications for its descriptions.
