No—not in every game. Whether you need to press the clutch to shift with a Logitech shifter depends on the game’s transmission and control settings. The shifter and clutch pedal are separate controls, and having both connected does not guarantee that a game supports or requires clutch input.
When do you need to use the clutch?
The game decides whether clutch input is supported and required. Logitech says clutch support must come from the game developer, and not all games include it. Check the game’s settings for manual transmission, clutch use, and control mapping; the requirements can vary by game.
Logitech also says the Driving Force Shifter attachment is required to make proper use of the G29 clutch pedal. That statement concerns use of the G29 pedal. It does not mean every gear change in every game requires you to press a clutch.
Which Logitech wheels and platforms support the setup?
Logitech lists the Driving Force Shifter as compatible with the G923, G29 (PlayStation and PC), and G920 (Xbox and PC). It has six speeds and a push-down reverse gear. The G29 technical specifications list three pedals: throttle, brake, and clutch.

For the G29, Logitech says clutch functionality is supported on PS4, PS5, and PC, but not PS3. Hardware compatibility alone does not confirm that a particular game supports clutch input; check the game’s compatibility information for your platform.
How to check the game’s clutch settings
- Confirm the game and platform: Check the game’s compatibility information to see whether clutch input is supported on your system.
- Check the transmission options: Look for manual transmission and clutch settings in the game. If the game does not support clutch input, connecting the pedal will not add that feature.
- Inspect control mapping: Make sure the clutch is assigned correctly. Logitech warns that some games may invert or incorrectly map clutch controls; check the game’s control options and Logitech Gaming Software where applicable.
If the clutch pedal does not work
First verify that the game and platform support clutch input, then check the in-game mapping. If you have a G29, also confirm that the Driving Force Shifter attachment is connected, as Logitech says it is required to make proper use of the G29 clutch pedal. A connected shifter and pedal do not by themselves establish that the game will use the clutch.
