Fortitude improves your resistance to temperature extremes and torpidity, and the ARK Community Wiki also lists disease resistance. It is a supporting stat—not a way to prevent all freezing, overheating, or knockouts, and it does not reduce ordinary damage.
What Fortitude does
The ARK Community Wiki describes Fortitude as a measure of resistance to weather, torpidity, and disease. Its practical effects are mainly better temperature insulation and altered torpidity behavior.

- Temperature: Each invested level point adds 2 Fortitude and 4.5 points of both hypothermal and hyperthermal insulation, according to the wiki. Its displayed table rounds values down.
- Torpidity: Each invested point raises the player’s knockout threshold by 1. The wiki also says Fortitude reduces torpidity gain and increases torpidity drop.
- Disease: The wiki includes disease resistance in its description, but the cited material does not quantify that effect.
- Damage: Fortitude does not reduce ordinary damage received.
How much temperature protection does it provide?
Fortitude helps, but it is not a guarantee of safety in severe weather. For a concrete example, the wiki reports that at −5 °C (23 °F), at least 200 hypothermal insulation is required to resist hypothermic effects. Its table lists 202 insulation at 45 spent points and 198 at 44. Treat this as the wiki’s stated example, not a universal temperature rule for every map, edition, patch, or server configuration.
Your effective insulation also depends on equipment and shelter. The wiki’s insulation guide explains that clothing or armor can improve or worsen insulation, while shelter changes it too. Check the insulation values in your own setup rather than relying on Fortitude alone.

Does it help you avoid being knocked out?
It raises the amount of torpidity needed to knock out your character, but the increase is modest. The wiki gives a zero-Fortitude human knockout threshold of 50 torpidity and 51 with one Fortitude point. It also reports that Fortitude reduces torpidity gain and increases torpidity drop; it does not make you immune to torpidity effects.
Should you spend level points on Fortitude?
That depends on what is causing trouble in your game. If temperature exposure or torpidity is a recurring problem, Fortitude can contribute to managing it. But there is no single target that works for every player: the useful amount depends on conditions, equipment, shelter, map, edition, and server settings. For temperature problems, compare the actual insulation of your gear and surroundings before treating Fortitude as the only answer.

Weather effects are based on real-world climates, and so you'll need to hide out from rain and snow, while making the most of sunny days
