What the trailer shows about the game
Nintendo’s launch-trailer page sets up the Kongs’ effort to recover their bananas from the Tiki Tak Tribe and highlights the game’s core platforming tools: stomping enemies, blasting through barrels, riding rockets and mine carts, and charging through obstacles as Rambi. The premise and movement are rooted in a side-scrolling adventure, rather than a new spin-off format.

The Switch edition is described by Nintendo as a visually enhanced version of the Wii game. It includes the additional levels from the 3DS version, for 80 levels across nine worlds, according to Nintendo’s US game listing.

Solo play and difficulty options
Nintendo says players can choose to play with the original Wii design or reduce the difficulty to receive extra hearts and other items. These are options for approaching the adventure; Nintendo does not describe them as separate games or provide a quantified difficulty rating.

Release date, formats and demo
Nintendo UK lists the release date as January 16, 2025, with both a physical Nintendo Switch Game Card and a download version. Its UK listing gives a download size of 12.1 GB; that figure and the date are specific to the UK store page.
If you want to try the game before buying, Nintendo’s free eShop demo includes three levels from the first world of DK Island.

What changed in update 1.1.0
Nintendo Support lists version 1.1.0 as released January 20, 2026. The update adds Dixie Kong as a playable character, Turbo Attack as a high-speed course mode, Brazilian Portuguese support, and other fixes and image-quality improvements on Switch and Switch 2. On Switch 2, the update also adds GameShare for local wireless play with a friend who does not own the game, display optimization for the console and high-resolution TVs, and shorter loading times. Nintendo’s update history lists these changes by system.
