DISSIDIA DUELLUM FINAL FANTASY brings familiar series characters into modern Tokyo, where two three-player teams race to defeat a boss. Its “fashionable factions” are best understood as a preview angle—not an official name for teams: Square Enix confirms four combat roles and outfits adapted to the modern world, but does not describe narrative factions or specific clothing collections.
What kind of game is Dissidia Duellum?
Square Enix describes DISSIDIA DUELLUM FINAL FANTASY as a “3vs3 Team Boss Battle Arena.” Rather than fighting the opposing team directly as the sole objective, both teams compete to defeat a powerful boss first. The game is listed as free to play with in-app purchases, including randomized virtual items, on Square Enix’s official game page.

The official battle flow turns the match into a race for damage:
- Hunt monsters near a crystal to purify it and build Bravery.
- At maximum Bravery, unleash Bravery Burst to damage the boss.
- Use abilities to help bring the boss down before the opposing team does.
That loop gives the team roles a practical purpose: characters need to contribute to the monster phase and then help convert Bravery into boss damage. The official system overview explains the roles and battle mechanics, but does not provide match statistics or a universal ranking of which role is strongest.

How the four combat roles differ
Square Enix identifies four roles. These labels describe gameplay functions, not story factions.
| Role | Officially described function | Team contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | High stats, particularly offense | Leads and supports the frontline |
| Ranged | Longer range for normal attacks and abilities | Attacks from the backlines |
| Agile | Unique dash ability and high mobility | Uses movement to navigate combat |
| Support | Tools to support allies and make use of character-specific strengths | Helps teammates and brings out individual strengths |
The role descriptions suggest distinct approaches to the boss race—frontline offense, distance, mobility, and ally support—but Square Enix has not published comparative balance data in the cited system overview. Treat role as a starting point for understanding a character, not proof that one choice wins more often.
Why are Final Fantasy characters in modern Tokyo?
The story begins with a giant crystal that blends into everyday life in Tokyo. Strange monsters emerge from mysterious energy polluting it. Warriors appear, fight the creatures, then conceal their identities and quickly vanish; people come to call them “ghosts.” Square Enix says these warriors are summoned from the FINAL FANTASY series into the modern world. The main story features full Japanese voice acting, according to the official story page.

What does “fashionable” mean here?
Square Enix confirms that characters can acquire outfits, including a new look adapted to the modern world. That gives the preview’s fashion framing a real basis: iconic characters are being presented in a contemporary setting, with customization tied to alternate looks. The official text does not name specific garments, collections, or rarity tiers, so it would be premature to describe particular outfits or imply a deeper fashion system than the confirmed feature.
Customization also sits alongside two other character-facing elements in the system overview: Memorias, described as memorable FINAL FANTASY scenes earned as rewards and set to boost character stats, and music tracks and arrangements used in battles. Square Enix labels imagery on its official pages as under development, so displayed visuals should not be treated as final presentation.

Availability, purchases, and launch context
Square Enix’s March 25, 2026 launch notice said the game was then available for iOS and Android. The official overview lists the App Store and Google Play and describes the game as free to play with in-app purchases, including randomized virtual items. Store access and service status can vary by region and change over time, so check the relevant storefront for current availability.
The launch notice also mentioned seven-day login rewards and a MogPay web shop as launch-period promotions. Those were tied to launch and should not be assumed to be current offers. The same notice said the DISSIDIA DUELLUM FINAL FANTASY Original Soundtrack became available starting March 24, 2026, and named Takafumi Imamura of the FINAL FANTASY XIV and FINAL FANTASY XVI sound team as its main composer; it did not specify a physical edition.
