Bloodlines 2 uses Disciplines as its framework for vampiric powers: your starting clan gives you a distinct passive and playstyle, while an ability tree lets you unlock powers and eventually a clan perk. You can also learn activated abilities and perks from other clans, so you can make a mixed build without replacing your starting clan’s passive. The publisher currently lists six playable clans: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador, and Lasombra.

What are Disciplines in Bloodlines 2?

Disciplines are supernatural abilities tied to vampiric combat and clan identity. The publisher also uses the broader word “abilities” for powers in the game, so these are connected terms rather than two separate systems. Blood sustains the player and empowers Disciplines.

Your starting clan determines a unique passive and gives you an ability tree. Ability Points earned through missions, combat, and exploration unlock abilities in that tree; completing it unlocks a clan perk. The official clan descriptions say that abilities sharing a Discipline affinity with your clan cost fewer Ability Points than abilities from a Discipline it lacks. The exact cost depends on the ability and current game version.

Can you mix abilities from different clans?

Yes. The clan materials describe learning activated abilities and perks from other clans. This allows you to combine powers suited to different situations, while your starting clan’s passive remains exclusive and cannot be replaced. A 2025 developer diary also says mixing clan Disciplines can help in later fights against stronger Kindred.

What does each clan play like?

The publisher’s descriptions suggest different approaches to range, stealth, control, and defense. These are broad playstyle directions, not a ranking of which clan performs best in every encounter.

Clan Publisher-described direction Best fit for
Brujah Brawling, melee pressure, knocking enemies around, and stronger attacks after feeding. Direct aggression and close combat.
Banu Haqim Strategic stalking, stealth, assassination, and moving faster than opponents can track. Stealth and planned attacks.
Tremere Ranged glass-cannon combat using blood sorcery. Keeping distance and dealing blood-based offense.
Ventrue Domination and defensive resilience, including controlling weaker foes and making them fight or harm themselves. Crowd control and survival.
Lasombra Weaponizing shadows to isolate, ensnare, and instill dread. Shadow-based control.
Toreador Named in the publisher’s playable-clan roster; a detailed ability list and playstyle are not established in the official materials cited here. Specific strengths are not established here.

Which clan is best for stealth or combat?

For stealth and assassination, Banu Haqim is the clearest fit in the publisher’s descriptions. Brujah is framed around close-range aggression; Tremere around ranged blood sorcery; Ventrue around control and defense; and Lasombra around shadow-based control. The available official descriptions do not establish a universal strongest clan or a full comparative balance test, so choose based on the style you want rather than a purported best build.

Thinblood Disciplines and named powers

Paradox’s 2019 Thinblood announcement named three Disciplines and described each as having two active powers and three passive upgrades. These are the named powers and effects in that historical design reveal, not a guarantee that every detail is unchanged in the current patched game.

Chiropteran: movement and bats

  • Glide: Briefly reduces the vampire’s weight, allowing floating, reaching otherwise inaccessible places, swooping onto NPCs, and using other Disciplines from above.
  • Bat Swarm: Attacks and temporarily disables a target; upgrades expand the swarm’s effect.

Mentalism: telekinetic manipulation

  • Pull: Telekinetically manipulates inanimate objects, including weapons held by NPCs.
  • Levitate: Suspends a living NPC; upgrades can extend the effect to a wider area.

Nebulation: mist

  • Mist Shroud: Muffles footsteps and reduces visibility. The announced design also describes partially transforming into mist to choke an NPC or pass through tight spaces.
  • Envelop: Creates a stationary cloud that surrounds and blinds NPCs it touches.

Elixirs and combat support

A 2025 developer diary names four elixirs found while exploring. It describes them as combat aids:

  • Blood sustains you and empowers your vampiric Disciplines. You’ll stalk and feed on the city’s population at night. Use your supernatural powers or raw persuasion on unsuspecting mortals to lure them into dark alleys and slake your Hunger.
  • Enter the World of Darkness and rise through vampire society or rail against it. Experience Seattle - a city full of alluring, dangerous characters and factions, not to mention the mortals at stake in the clash of powers beyond their knowing.
  • Hunt your way through a modern-night Seattle on the brink of an open supernatural war in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, where visceral vampire action meets a neo-noir murder mystery. Navigate the vampire Court of Seattle and its dark underbelly in this action RPG, realized by the BAFTA award-winning studio The Chinese Room.
  • Mending Elixir: Restores health.
  • Blood Elixir: Restores blood pips.
  • Potence Elixir: Temporarily increases attack damage.
  • Fortitude Elixir: Temporarily reduces incoming damage.

The diary also discusses combining abilities to control space, alongside the option to mix clan Disciplines to help handle stronger Kindred later in the game.

What is not established about the abilities?

The official sources cited here do not provide a complete, patch-current inventory of named abilities for every clan. In particular, they identify Toreador as playable but do not establish its detailed powers or playstyle. The Thinblood power descriptions come from a 2019 pre-release announcement; consult the current game for exact effects if a particular mechanic matters to your build.
