One useful way to interpret the mixed reception is to separate the premise from the finished experience: the setting and combat have recognizable appeal, while reviewers differed on whether the design delivers those ideas convincingly. The scores summarize critics’ assessments; they do not establish how any particular player will respond.
What kind of game is Dolmen?
Dolmen is a 2022 action RPG developed by Massive Work Studio and published by Prime Matter. It released on May 20, 2022. The game takes place on Revion Prime, a hostile alien planet, and combines melee attacks, ranged weapons, exploration, and boss encounters. Steam lists the PC release; the PlayStation Store listing covers PS4 and PS5.

Energy links the two combat styles
Energy is used to fire ranged weapons and can also imbue melee weapons with elemental effects. The PlayStation description calls the activated state Energy Mode. That means the central combat idea is not simply choosing between guns and close-range weapons: using energy for one purpose affects the resource available for the other.
Is Dolmen a good Soulslike?
If you want a science-fiction action RPG with boss encounters and a deliberate mix of close- and long-range combat, Dolmen may be worth considering. The critic reception suggests caution if your priority is consistently polished design: the reviews cited by Metacritic include criticisms of execution and polish alongside praise for atmosphere and combat concepts. The available evidence does not establish a universal verdict on its difficulty or how it compares mechanically with any specific Soulslike.

What should players know about multiplayer and editions?
PlayStation describes online play as optional and lists support for up to four online players; its listing says online multiplayer requires PS Plus. It also lists a Rebel Set add-on. Those details apply to the PlayStation listing; they do not establish current player population or add-on availability in every region.
A February 17, 2022 release table identified both digital and physical launch formats. That is historical launch-format information, not confirmation of present physical stock or current retailer availability. Check the listing for your platform and region before purchasing.

How do player reviews compare with critic reviews?
Steam showed 55% positive from 276 all-time user reviews when accessed in 2026. This is a changeable storefront snapshot, not a critic score, and it represents Steam users rather than players across all platforms.
