No. Rust Console Edition does not share multiplayer servers with PC Rust. PlayStation and Xbox players can play together, though: both need to join a console server configured for Crossplay.
Can PC and console Rust play together?
No. Rust Console Edition is a separate console experience, with its own roadmap and server pool; a PC Rust player cannot join a Rust Console Edition server. Double Eleven describes the console game as “based on the PC version” but “designed and optimised for a completely separate and unique console player experience” in its Launch and Beyond announcement.
Can PS4 play with Xbox One on Rust?
Yes. PlayStation and Xbox players can share a Rust Console Edition server when its platform setting is Crossplay. This applies to console crossplay, not PC crossplay. The server setting controls which platforms can see and join it.
Which Rust server should friends join?
For a mixed PlayStation-and-Xbox group, choose a server configured for Crossplay. Community server settings also include Xbox Only and PlayStation; a platform-restricted server is not visible to players on the other console platform.

| Server platform setting | Who can see and join |
|---|---|
| Xbox Only | Xbox players |
| PlayStation | PlayStation players |
| Crossplay | PlayStation and Xbox players |
These options are described in the official Community Servers: Basic Settings guide. PC Rust is not one of the console server options.
How to play together on PS4 and Xbox One
- Open Rust Console Edition on each console.
- Find the server browser and select a server whose platform setting is Crossplay.
- Make sure every friend joins the same server. If a friend cannot find it, check that it is not configured as Xbox Only or PlayStation.
Double Eleven’s published guidance establishes the server-setting requirement, but does not document one universal invitation or “join game” flow for every console menu and game version. Use the shared Crossplay server as the reliable selection criterion rather than assuming an invite button works identically across Xbox and PlayStation.
Does crossplay share progress between Xbox and PlayStation?
No. Playing on the same Crossplay server is separate from transferring progress between platforms. Double Eleven states in Dev Blog #37: “No, cross platform progress transfer is not an option in Rust Console Edition.” Crossplay does not imply that purchases or progression carry from one console platform to another.
Are community servers required?
No. Community server hosting is an optional choice for groups seeking a private or customized console environment. Double Eleven describes community servers and names Nitrado and GPORTAL as providers in its Community Servers information. Check the server’s platform setting and current availability before choosing one. Renting a community server does not connect PC Rust to the console edition.
