To cross the first large bridge in ENA: Dream BBQ, finish Shoryo’s PETS COME HOME… job, then complete Hoarder Alex’s KILL THAT MAN’S STARE job: buy Mayonnaise with Shoryo’s 10-Chocolate reward, apply it to the Watcher, and talk to Alex again. These steps are for the bridge in the Uncanny Streets; the later river crossing in The Core is a different puzzle.
Cross the Uncanny Streets bridge
The normal route opens the bridge after you complete both jobs. The route and item details below come from community walkthroughs on the ENA Wiki Chapter 1 walkthrough, rather than developer-confirmed instructions.

- Take Shoryo’s PETS COME HOME… job. Find Shoryo in the roundabout and accept the job to find four pets around the Uncanny Streets. Follow blood trails, and listen for a distinctive sucking-teeth-like sound that can help you locate a pet. Return to Shoryo when you have found all four.
- Attempt the large bridge, then speak with Hoarder Alex. Alex asks you to cover the Watcher’s eyes. The Watcher is on a broken building near one of the pet locations.
- Buy Mayonnaise. Shoryo’s reward is 10 Chocolates, which the walkthrough says is enough to buy Mayonnaise from a vending machine.
- Use the Mayonnaise on the Watcher. Return to Alex and speak to him again. The walkthrough says the second conversation opens the way across the bridge.
- Continue to the other side. The witches’ job is beyond the bridge. Reaching the Orb comes later and involves the Humanboard.
Track jobs and hints
You can speak to NPCs more than once to get additional dialogue. Active jobs and hints you have learned appear in the job listings menu. On Windows, the default key for that menu is Tab; check the controls in the options menu if you missed a prompt or changed your bindings.
Optional bypass: let Alex die
The walkthrough also describes a shortcut after you have spoken with Alex: when the revive prompt appears, do nothing for seven minutes. This permanently kills Alex, grants the Bad Samaritan achievement, and opens the bridge route without completing the two standard jobs. Choose it only if you accept losing Alex; it is not the normal quest solution. This outcome is documented by the community walkthrough.

If you mean the river in The Core
The later crossing in The Core is not the Uncanny Streets bridge gate. There, you encounter a white river, bamboo rafts, and a giant portable toilet on the far side. The ENA Wiki’s The Core walkthrough describes two ways across:
