A January 24, 2025, Insider Gaming report said EA was holding more frequent external-player tests for Battlefield 6 and collecting more feedback than on earlier entries. But the report’s “biggest” characterization came from unnamed sources: it gave no participant count or comparison method, and EA did not publicly confirm that specific claim in the story.
Did Battlefield 6 have the biggest playtests ever?
That is what Tom Henderson reported for Insider Gaming on January 24, 2025, citing unnamed sources. According to the report, EA and its studios were running external-player sessions more frequently than for previous installments and gathering more feedback. “Biggest” should be read as the sources’ qualitative description, not as a measured franchise record: the article disclosed no player total, test hours, or method for comparing one game’s tests with another.
The report framed the testing effort as preparation intended to help avoid another troubled Battlefield launch. That was the report’s account of the effort’s purpose, not evidence that playtesting prevented a bad launch or that a larger test program guarantees a better release.
What did the reported tests cover?
The January report said testing was expected to cover both Battlefield 6 multiplayer and Ripple Effect’s free-to-play battle royale offering. It also said EA was considering bringing back the Battlefield Community Test Environment, but did not establish whether it would return or how large or accessible it might be.

How does the later Battlefield Labs reporting differ?
Later coverage concerned Battlefield Labs, a public-facing playtesting initiative, and cited figures EA CEO Andrew Wilson gave on the company’s Q4 FY2025 earnings call. GamesRadar+ reported that more than 600,000 people had signed up across North America and Europe, players had completed “1000s of hours of gameplay,” and EA was expanding invitations to Asia. Wilson was quoted saying, “We’ve always worked closely with the community, but we haven’t always worked as closely as we should have,” and, “The response has far exceeded expectations.”

Could bigger playtests prevent another bad launch?
Broader or more frequent player testing can give developers more opportunities to observe how people play and hear their feedback. But the available reporting does not show what changes resulted from these tests, whether feedback was representative, or whether testing scale caused any improvement in launch quality. The January story described an effort intended to avert another troubled launch; neither it nor the later figures establish that outcome.
