Elden Ring is getting a substantial lore book, but “definitive” needs a qualification: Lore Bound: Elden Ring Explained, associated with creator VaatiVidya, is an unlicensed interpretation—not an official lore ruling from FromSoftware or Bandai Namco. Its announced scope brings together Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Nightreign.
What is the Elden Ring lore book?
Lore Bound: Elden Ring Explained is a book by VaatiVidya, the creator known for Elden Ring lore videos. PC Gamer reported on November 18, 2025, that the project would gather updated scripts from his earlier lore videos, add commissioned illustrations, and bring in alternative perspectives from other creators.
VaatiVidya described the book’s intent in a statement quoted by PC Gamer: “This book will bind together everything I’ve learned from Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Nightreign into one single volume,”. He also said, “My old video scripts will be updated, new illustrations will be commissioned, and every effort will be made to ensure each page is clear and engaging.” These are statements about the project at announcement time, not confirmation of its current production or shipping status. PC Gamer’s announcement report also attributes a scale claim of 20 hours of video to the source material. That figure describes video material the book was expected to collect, not the finished book’s reading time or page count.
Is it an official or definitive account of Elden Ring lore?
No. The book has been described as unlicensed, so it should be understood as VaatiVidya’s creator-authored synthesis and interpretation, not a canon declaration endorsed by FromSoftware or Bandai Namco. Its breadth may make it a convenient single-volume guide to his work and perspectives from contributing creators, but it does not settle ambiguities in the games on behalf of their developers.

What games and material will it cover?
The announced coverage spans Elden Ring, its expansion Shadow of the Erdtree, and Nightreign. The plan reported in 2025 was to update previous video scripts and supplement them with commissioned art and other creators’ perspectives. The book is therefore positioned as a lore-focused synthesis, rather than a reference manual organized primarily around gameplay systems.

How does it compare with the official Books of Knowledge?
Future Press’s Elden Ring Books of Knowledge is a separate official reference series. It is not another edition of Lore Bound, and its emphasis is broader gameplay documentation alongside lore. Future Press describes the series’ coverage as follows:
Rank #3
| Book | Publisher-described emphasis |
|---|---|
| Volume I | Includes a dedicated lore section. |
| Volume II | Catalogs enemies, bosses, armaments, and combat systems, and includes a director interview. |
| Volume III | Covers Shadow of the Erdtree. |
Choose based on what you want from a book: Lore Bound is the announced creator-authored lore synthesis, while the Books of Knowledge are official game reference guides with substantial gameplay coverage. Current retail availability for the Future Press volumes is not established here.
