Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw is the harder version of Adel, Baron of the Night. The practical tips below come from a player guide, not an official weakness chart; your build and the boss’s current behavior can change what works.
What changes in the Everdark Sovereign fight?
Bandai Namco Europe described Sovereigns as limited-time Nightlords with “new moves and increased power,” making the Everdark encounter a more challenging version of the ordinary Gaping Jaw fight. The publisher’s original announcement said players had to defeat the regular Nightlord first and that the event was online-only; solo play was still possible while playing online. The announced Gaping Jaw event ran June 19–26, 2025. That was a historical event window, not confirmation that this Sovereign is available now. Check the in-game Expedition menu or current official announcements before planning a run.
How to survive the main attacks
Make space for the tornado
Creator Jay Dunna recommends moving toward the arena’s edge before the large tornado sequence, then using Spiritstream to jump into or through it. Jump ground-based attacks when the cue is clear
The same creator recommends jumping attacks that travel along the ground when their animations give you a readable cue. Do not assume every ground effect has identical timing. Bandai Namco’s Version 1.03.1 notes say it improved hit detection and effect positioning for Gaping Jaw’s ground-based attacks, but they do not specify dodge timing. The notes identify App Ver. 1.03.1 and Regulation Ver. 1.03.2. See the official Version 1.03.1 notes.
Respect the lightning charge and revive openings
Jay Dunna flags the lightning charge as dangerous and cautions against overcommitting when Gaping Jaw can punish a teammate attempting a revive. Keep enough stamina and distance to react rather than extending a damage combo into either moment. A revive is only useful if the rest of the team can survive the interruption.
What builds and status effects should you use?
Jay Dunna’s guide names frostbite, scarlet rot, bleed, and poison as useful ways to maintain status pressure. This is creator advice, not an official weakness chart or a guarantee that every status will perform equally across weapons, builds, or attempts. Apply a status when it fits your kit; do not sacrifice survival or reliable damage just to force one.
The video also suggests ranged characters and mentions Raider, Ironeye, and Recluse. It does not provide controlled comparisons proving that these are the best Nightfarers. As a practical choice, consider whether your character can keep dealing damage while repositioning, stay alive through the longer danger windows, and apply your preferred status without standing in a risky spot.

How do you unlock the Everdark version, and what does it reward?
In the original June 2025 announcement, Bandai Namco said players needed to defeat the regular Gaping Jaw first. The Sovereign appeared during a limited event window and required online mode, although solo play was supported in that mode. The announced June 19–26, 2025 schedule has passed; the available official information cited here does not establish the October 2026 rotation. Look in the Expedition menu or check current official news for availability.
Bandai Namco said defeating a Sovereign awarded Sovereign Sigils, which could be exchanged for special Relics and other items; the first clear also granted additional Sigils. These are the announced reward details for the event, not a promise that the encounter or its shop is currently active.
Which version and patch information matters?
The official Version 1.03.1 notes specifically mention improved hit detection and effect positioning for Gaping Jaw’s ground attacks. The game’s official news list also shows Hotfix 1.03.5 dated March 31, 2026, and Patch 1.03.2 dated January 15, 2026. Those later listings establish that updates followed Version 1.03.1, but the cited information does not say whether they changed this boss or its Everdark rotation.
